6 Tips To Stay Motivated With Your Exercise Routine

Posted on 04/08/2011

It’s easy to lose motivation when you have been doing the same fitness workout routine day after day, week after week. That’s exactly the reason why so many people take breaks from working out and end up losing all motivation to get back into it again. If you feel as though you are beginning to plateau, use the following tips to help you stay motivated.

1. Always set goals. When you set a goal for yourself, you are more likely to stick with it. For example, if your goal is to lose 30 pounds by the end of the summer then you will be more focused and committed with your efforts. Write down your goals and place them on the refrigerator so that you can see them everyday and remind yourself why you started exercising in the first place.

2. Make your exercise fun. If you get to a point where your exercise routine becomes a chore, then you’ve lost the fun component. In order to stick to a routine, it has to be enjoyable and fun so that you want to keep doing it again and again. Don’t force yourself to do an exercise that doesn’t appeal to you. If you hate running, don’t try to run two or three times per week. But if you enjoy walking, then do that instead.

3. Schedule exercise into your daily routine. So many of us live every day on a tight schedule. We have everything written down in our calendars, and if it’s not on the calendar then there isn’t time for it. That’s why you need to schedule exercise into your daily routine and set aside enough time to dedicate yourself to your fitness goals.

4. Workout with friends. When you exercise with a group of friends on a regular basis, you are less likely to miss workouts. Your friends can serve as a great support system to help keep each other motivated. On days that you don’t feel like working out, they can convince you otherwise.

5. Reward yourself. Set up a reward system for yourself in order to help you stay motivated. If you reach the halfway point to your overall weight loss goal, then treat yourself to a new wardrobe. Reward systems work well for a lot of things, including weight loss.

6. Don’t be afraid to try something new. If you find yourself losing interest in your exercise routine, then it might be time to try something new. Some of us get so stuck in a regular routine that the thought of changing it incites fear. But you should never be afraid to try something new. If there is an activity that you have always wanted to try, then give it a go. Break out of your comfort zone and allow yourself the freedom to try new things. There’s a whole world of fun activities out there waiting for you, and you’d never know it if you stay inside the gym all the time.
