UFC on Fuel 3 Results: The Korean Zombie Continues his Evolution

Fuel TV hosted free live UFC fights for the third time, with an interesting choice of Tuesday night. Those who tuned in were treated to some great fights. On the undercard, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone picked apart Jeremy “Lil’ Heathen” Stephens en route to a unanimous decision victory. With the win, Cerrone got back on track in the ultra-competitive lightweight division. “Filthy” Tom Lawlor was impressive as well, knocking out Jason MacDonald in 50 seconds in one of the first bouts to air on Fuel. MacDonald had been considering retirement, and after being put to sleep in under a minute, that looks like his best bet.

Welterweight Division (170 lbs.):

Amir Sadollah (5-3, 5-3 UFC) vs. Jorge “Lil’ Monster” Lopez (11-2, 0-1 UFC)

Round 1:

Good leg kick from Lopez to start. Sadollah steps in but backs away after Lopez comes at hime with hooks. Lopez again with a combination to the head that is blocked. “Lil Monster” appears to have the speed advantage, double jabs. Another hard kick by Lopez. Sadollah clinches on the cage and the fighters exchange knees. On the break Lopez goes back to the jab and is looking crisp. Sadolah with a good body kick. Lopez with a powerful leg kick, then clinches Sadollah. Lopez trying to take Amir down but can’t do so initially. Lopez pulls Sadollah off his feet and completes the take down. Lopez working to pass, gets in half guard. Sadollah trying to wall walk. Amir gets back up. The welterweights grapple on the cage to close the frame. 10-9 round for Lopez.

Round 2:

More of the same this round as Lopez is pressing Sadollah on the cage looking for a takedown. Lopez trying to out muscle Sadollah. Amir stubbornly resisting the takedown by pushing the head down. More grappling on the cage. Fighters break and Amir looking to get active. Amir throws a head kick, blocked, but a body kick gets through for Sadollah. Lopez back to the cage-clinch tactics. Lopez digging for a single leg, Sadollah tries for a guillotine. Lopez escapes and lands in side control. Sadollah able to stand back up, but Lopez is totally controlling this fight. The 23 year old looking impressive. More footwork and movement form Lopez., Amir trying to pick up the pace. Sadollah Lands a body shot, but then gives up an easy take down. 10-9 round for Lopez.

Round 3:

Fast pace to start the final round, the fighters trade strikes but then clinch. Battle on the cage for position. Lopez working for a takedown. Sadollah trying to get a standing guillotine locked up, but gives it up because Lopez is really threatening the takedown. Lopez gets him down but Sadollah pops right back up. Sadollah turns Lopez and knees him on the cage. The welters break and trade leg kicks. Sadollah with a nice front kick to the face. Clinch on the cage again, Lopez works for a take down and eventually gets it. Lopez in guard, grinding out a decision. Ref stands them up. Sadollah attacks with a flying knee. Lopez back to the takedown attempts on the cage. Sadollah with a nice counter flip takedown. Lopez gets back up. Sadollah with some good knees and the welters slug it out to end the fight.10-9 round for Sadollah

The judges score the fight 29-28, 28-29, and 29-28 for the winner by split decision, Amir Sadollah.

Featherweight Division (145 lbs.):

“The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung (12-3, 2-0 UFC) vs. Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier (12-1, 4-0 UFC)

Round 1:

The fighters trade kicks and Poirier lands a good left hand. Jung catches a kick and takes Poirier down. Poirier grinds his way back up and starts working for a single leg on the cage. Korean Zombie with a knee. Body shot by Poirier. Another uppercut to the body by Poirier. Knee from “The Diamond” but then Jung with the clinch takedown. Korean Zombie in side mount, landing elbows. Poirier regains guard. Good elbows from Jung open a cut on Poirier. Now Jung utilizing hammerfists. Good upkicks from Poirier. Reversal by Poirier. Korean Zombie working off his back now. Poirier has Jung pressed against the cage and Jung eventually wall walks up. Good elbow and knee from Poirier. Korean Zombie comes back with a couple solid strikes. Poirier shoots and Jung sprawls nicely. 10-9 round for Jung.

Round 2:

Poirier lands a leg kick but eats a straight right counter that puts him on his back. Sick ground and pound by Jung, very accurate strikes. Eventually Jung settles down back in the closed guard. Jung postures up and lands more big shots. Jung lets Poirier back up. Jung misses with a spinning back fist but connects with a flying knee and then he tees off with uppercuts. Incredible action now, crowd going wild as Korean Zombie goes crazy with knees. Poirier takes Jung down but Korean Zombie with a slick reversal, instantly winding up in full mount. Jung landing light strikes, goes for an armbar. Poirier gets out of that but gets struck in a triangle. The triangle looks deep as Poirier’s head gets red. Jung back to attacking the arm but Poirier miraculously escapes and winds up on top. What a round. 10-9 round for Jung.

Round 3:

Leg kick from Poirier. Jung and Poirier starting to exchange with punches. Pace slowing a little. Good uppercuts from Jung. Now Korean Zombie working the jab. Poirier with a nice right hand leg kick combo. A good jab from Poirier. Nice left hand from Poirier. Jung clinches Poirier and takes him down with ease. Jung lands some solid ground and pound off the clinch takedown. Poirier gets back up and lands some good punches. Poirier starting to find his mark. Good knee from the Korean Zombie. Jung looks gassed, has his hands completely down. Still trading and throwing wildly, but Poirier getting the better of it now. Good jabs from Poirier Jung presses forward and starts winging punches, but doesn’t land much. Nice left hand from Poirier. Jung looked off that round. Poirier got the better of the striking exchange. 10-9 round for Poirier.

Round 4:

Poirier back to landing lefts. Jung looking to counter. One-two from Poirier. Big right uppercut, left hook combo from Korean Zombie hurts Poirier bad. Jung pounces with a flying knee that drops Poirier. Jung is working a D’Arce choke, its tight. The Korean Zombie rolls like an anaconda and the choke is in deep. Poirier goes to tap but his arm falls limp, the ref instantly notices and stops the fight as Poirier is napping.
