The Knocking Out Obesity Tour, Info, Visiting Schools Across the US

Posted on 04/05/2011

The Knocking Out Obesity Tour has been in the works for the past few years and we are now ready to hit the road. We have selected 10 of the “fattest” cities according to the annual Men’s Fitness list/study and will be stopping at each one as we make our way across the country and back from April 25th to May 20th, 2011.

Because of the childhood obesity epidemic we have chosen one middle school in each city which is in need of more physical fitness and a healthier diet. Middle school students are at a cross roads and educating them on physical fitness and nutrition is critical.

We will be going to the following schools/cities:

April 25th- Hubert Howe Bancroft Middle School 929 N Las Palmas Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90038
April 29th- Jackson Middle School 2601 S. Villa, Oklahoma City, OK 73108
May 2nd- Hamilton Middle School 1478 Wilson St. Memphis, TN 38106
May 4th- Wilson Middle School 7020 Tuckaseegee Road Charlotte, NC 28214
May 6th- Harding Warren G Middle School 2000 Wakeling St. Philadelphia, PA 19124
May 9th- Columbia Secondary School for Math, Science & Engineering New York, NY
May 11th- Starling Middle School 120 S. Central Avenue Columbus, OH 43222
May 13th- Emma Donnan Middle School 1202 E Troy Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46203
May 16th- Northgate Middle School 2117 NE 48th St. Kansas City, MO 64118
May 19th-Mario C. & Joanne Monaco Middle School, 1870 N. Lamont St. Las Vegas, NV 89115

We are working on getting Subway as our healthy lunch sponsor in each city to offer either healthy lunch for the day or FREE lunch coupons and nutritional guides. We will be discussing nutrition and healthy menu options for the students when they eat out.

We will be using whatever equipment is currently at each school to show that this non-contact boxing workout can be done with little equipment.

As a part of the Let’s Move initiative we will be taking part in the Physical Education and Sports Week in May.

We are excited to hit the road and start making changes in how our kids (and parents) are looking at physical fitness and nutrition. Below is a link to a video testimonial of a middle school PE teacher in CA talking about her experience with what we have done locally in California.

We have worked with local California schools such as Grant High School, Johnson Elementary School, Springview Middle School, Riley C. Wood Middle School, Smythe Middle School, Folsom High School and will continue to work with our local schools now and in the future.

Cary Williams-Nunez and Angelo Nunez founded PRIME TIME BOXING, INC. in 1998 and also created Prime Time Boxing Club, a non-profit organization that offers scholarship programs to pay for the training, equipment and travel expense for disadvantaged children.

Their boxing programs have been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX as well as in national publications such as Shape, Energy, Fitness, Franchise Times, Entrepreneur, Inc., USA Today and The New York Times.
Cary has over 15 years experience in the boxing and fitness industry. In her amateur boxing career, Cary won The Pacific Northwest Women’s Open Tournament in the 125 pound division.

Cary has been featured in Shape, Energy, Oxygen, Best Body, Men’s Fitness, Energy, Fitness and FHM.

She also graced the cover of Muscle & Fitness HERS.

Cary currently contributes to SHEKNOW.COM, EHOW.COM AND LIVESTRONG.COM, was a fitness columnist for the Sacramento Bee and has been a guest on many radio shows and television shows, including BETTER.TV as a boxing and fitness expert. She is currently doing a weekly fitness segment for UNIVISION.

Cary has appeared on the popular NBC reality show, Fear Factor.

Because of her involvement in young women’s sports, Cary was also recognized by The California Legislature along with Brandi Chastain and several other women in sports for her contribution and impact on girl’s sports.
Angelo started boxing at the age of 8 and boxed in the amateurs until the age of 20. He won national tournaments and even had a shot at the Olympic Trial but his father pushed him to turn pro. In Angelo’s pro career he fought great champions such as Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. He was also Oscar’s main sparring partner for two of his championship titles as well as an advisor to the De La Hoya camp in Big Bear CA for two years. Because Angelo was pushed away from the amateurs by his father, he is a firm believer in keeping our boxers in the amateurs long enough to make a strong Olympic team.

Angelo is the creator of the boxing program at all Prime Time Boxing locations and is constantly asked to advise many other clubs on their programming. The program he has created surpasses that of any boxing club and/or fitness center. He has been able to take true boxing and allow the average person to learn the sweet science in the most efficient way possible. His programming also includes regular updates on new combinations, conditioning methods and all that go into a true boxing workout.

Angelo has also been a guest on many sport radio shows as an expert in boxing and continues to be requested for such venues.

Angelo and Cary are Elite Coaches and Level IV Olympic Coaches and were selected by USA Boxing to certify trainers as LEVEL I and Level II USA Boxing coaches. They have been certifying boxing coaches for USA Boxing since 2001.

As coaches, they have trained and been in the corner of many boxers for national tournaments, such as the Golden Gloves, the Junior Olympics, the Silver Gloves, the National PAL, USA Nationals and many local shows.

They created and hosted “Boxing 101” and “Additional Fundamentals”, unique boxing instructional and workout DVDs.

As spokespeople and advisors for Everlast Worldwide, they have conducted demonstrations at trade shows such as Magic and the SGMA in Las Vegas and assisted with new equipment design. With Everlast, they also created a boxing class format for 24 Hour group fitness called Everlast Shadowbox. This class launched across the nation in spring 2008.Next, this dynamic duo will be heading across the country in spring of 2011 on the Knocking Out Obesity Tour. They will “hit” 10 of the fattest cities in the nation (according to Men’s Fitness) where they will stop at one middle school in each city. While at each school they will conduct the student’s PE program for the day with a non-contact boxing workout.
