Darchinyan Stops Gallo

Vic Darchinyan (39-5-1) was impressive in his debut for Top Rank as he disposed of Javier gallo (18-7-1) in the fourth round. This bout occurred at the Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo, Texas. Darchinyan knocked Gallo down three times in the second round. The end came in the fourth round when Darchinyan knocked Gallo down with a straight left hand and Gallo failed to get back up. The fight was waived off at 0:26 of the fourth round.

Ricky Burns Escapes Defeat

Ricky Burns (36-2) took on Jose Gonzalez (22-1) in the lightweight division on Saturday in Glascow, Scotland. This was supposed to be a tune up fight for Burns, but Gonzalez controlled the bout for the first six rounds and appeared to be headed for an upset. The tide changed however in the seventh round when Burns turned up the head and both fighters rocked each other. Burns fared better in the eighth and ninth rounds and Gonzalez quit on his stool after the ninth round. Gonzalez was ahead on the scorecards when he quit.

Promoter Nisse Sauerland Offers Holly Holm Fight With Cecilia Braekhus

“Our US representative Don Majewski was at Holm´s fight in Albuquerque last weekend,” Sauerland said. “He negotiated with her promoter Lenny Fresquez afterwards and made them another offer to stage the women´s fight of the century. We would have come to Las Vegas and we would have paid Holm the biggest purse of her career. Unfortunately, she turned us down again, claiming she wants to focus on her MMA career instead. That´s very disappointing and it confirms once again what we have been saying for a long time – that Holm is scared of fighting Cecilia because she knows she can´t keep up with her. We will now explore other options for Cecilia, of which there are plenty. She will be back in the ring after the summer break to continue her domination of women´s boxing.”

David Haye Pulls Out of Manuel Charr Fight

David Haye was due to fight Manuel Charr at the Manchester Arena on June 29th. Haye however has damaged his left hand and had to pull out of the fight. “I pick up injuries now and again in training, and sometimes carry them into fights, but this was one I simply couldn’t recover from. I need to rest it up for at least four weeks.” http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/boxing/4927311/David-Haye-pulls-out-of-Manuel-Charr-fight.html

Michael Buffer to Serve as Ring Announcer for Monte Carlo Million Dollar Super Four Final

Rodney Berman of South Africa’s Golden Gloves has confirmed that Hall of Famer, Michael Buffer will be doing ring-announcing duties for the final of the “Monte Carlo Million Dollar Super Four” tournament in Monaco on July 13th.

“He is a true professional and perhaps the only announcer whose presence resonates internationally,” said Berman. “He’ll be one of a number of stars at the final.”

Edwin Rodriguez (23-0) will meet Denis Grachev (13-1-1) in the “Super Four” final for a US $1 million purse, to be split 60/40.

Maidana vs. Lopez & Lara vs. Angulo Press Conference Quotes

Marcos Maidana

“ My plan is to go toe-to toe. I don’t know what Josesito is going to do, but that’s what I plan to do. Pressure is the key to the fight.”

“The 147-pound division is where I feel best. I didn’t feel that way at 140. Now I’m free and I can eat more. My body is different and you can see the definition.”

Josesito Lopez

“When you’re fighting a heavy puncher like Maidana, you have to be smart. The move up to 154 pounds helped me now that I’m back at 147. Now I feel I’m a true welterweight. I feel great in the gym; stronger and faster.

“This is a fight I have to win. It’s a fight that keeps me on the map. This is where I want to be and I’m working my ass off.

Alfredo Angulo

“This is my third fight after my time off and conditioning-wise I’m feeling like my old self, feeling like I used to feel. There’s no doubt I’ll be in better condition than I was for my last two fights. There was just too much time off. Now, I’m in a rhythm.

“It’s going to be a very good fight, the bull versus the matador. I have a lot of respect for Lara. He’s a really good fighter and he wants to show he’s the best, but he’s going to have to come out and fight.

Erislandy Lara

“There’s always a lot at stake when I fight, so I know I can’t look ahead or take Angulo for granted. He is my total focus now. After I win on June 8; I can start thinking about a world title shot again.

“The fact that I’m favored to win means nothing. Once the bell rings, it doesn’t matter what the odds are. It’s what you do in the ring that counts.

Super middleweight Farrah Ennis (20-1) will fight Anthony Hanshaw (23-2) on the undercard.

“Molina-Klimov is one of those fights that I believe won’t have a loser,” stated Promoter Dan Goosen. “Look at the Brandon Rios-Mike Alvarado bouts as an example. The fans want exciting, competitive fights, and no matter who wins in that type of fight, both fighters come out on top and get other opportunities. This will be a fight for the fans.”
