Promoter: Larry Goldberg, Boxing Insider Promotions
Boxing Insider Promotions returned to Sony Hall with a card that was a miracle to pull off — fights fell off left and right, but the show went on with four bouts. The evening was dedicated to the memory of David A. Goldberg, father of promoter Larry Goldberg, who passed away the previous month.
MAIN EVENT
Michael “Bomaye” Pirotton (8-0, 5 KOs) def. Walter “Fourth Degree” Burns (7-1, 5 KOs)
Heavyweight — 8 Rounds
Result: RTD after Round 3 (Burns retired on stool with arm injury)
Both men entered the ring undefeated at 7-0. Burns remained patient early, relying on his knockout power while Pirotton worked to establish range. Pirotton connected well in the second as Burns resorted to wild swings. By the third, Burns found his rhythm and began landing — and Pirotton took to showboating near the bell. But between rounds, Burns was unable to continue due to what appeared to be an arm injury, ending the fight on the stool. A disappointing finish to what was shaping into a competitive heavyweight battle.
CO-FEATURE
Andy Dominguez Velasquez (10-0, 6 KOs) def. Mohammed “Golden Boy” Aryeetey (7-1-1, 5 KOs)
Flyweight — 6 Rounds
Result: Majority Decision (58-56, 58-56, 57-57)
An outstanding fight between unbeaten flyweights. Aryeetey, the Ghanaian national flyweight champion making just his second U.S. appearance, was the aggressor early and worked the body well. Dominguez, the three-time New York Golden Gloves champion now training under Ismael Salas in Las Vegas, answered with hand speed and forward pressure. Aryeetey’s face was a mess by round three, but the Ghanaian battled back with sharp jabs and solid shots in the fifth and sixth. The razor-thin majority decision reflected how competitive the fight truly was — one judge couldn’t separate them.
Christina “The Hell’s Kitchen Kid” Cruz (5-0) def. Nancy “Chatita” Franco (19-18-2, 5 KOs)
Super Flyweight — 8 Rounds
Result: Unanimous Decision (80-72, 79-73, 79-73)
Cruz, the ten-time New York Golden Gloves champion fighting just blocks from where she grew up in Hell’s Kitchen, swept the veteran Franco over eight rounds. The Mexican Chatita brought experience from nearly 40 professional fights, but Cruz’s speed, volume, and hometown energy were too much. A dominant outing as Cruz remained perfect.
Edward Ulloa Diaz (14-5, 8 KOs) def. Gian Garrido (5-1, 4 KOs)
Super Lightweight — 6 Rounds
Result: TKO Round 1 (upset)
The biggest upset of the night — and a controversial one. Ulloa Diaz stopped the previously undefeated Garrido in the first round, but Garrido’s corner immediately protested, claiming the stoppage came from an elbow rather than a legal punch. The controversy did little to change the result on the official record, handing the Flushing, Queens product his first professional loss in stunning fashion.
