Logan Paul Gives KSI The Edge In Terms Of Punching Power Over Floyd Mayweather

Posted on 09/18/2021

Logan Paul has the unique experience of facing both a world-class boxer and a world-famous YouTuber.

The social media star turned de-facto prizefighter, was first introduced to the boxing world on August 25th, 2018. On the night, Paul graced the ring against fellow social media sensation, KSI, in a six-round amateur contest. After their first bout was ruled a majority draw, the two would do it again one year later. This time, they would ditch the protective headgear and have a full-blown sanctioned boxing match. Although their contest was razor tight, Paul would go on to lose a close split decision.

To add to his peculiar boxing journey, Paul found himself standing across the ring from one of the greatest boxers of his generation in Floyd Mayweather. The two would tango earlier this year on June 6th, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida in an eight-round exhibition.

While no winner was announced, their showdown was considered an unbelievable success, reportedly totaling more than one million pay-per-view buys.

As Paul sat back and reflected on his unusual boxing voyage, he was asked to juxtapose the punching power of both KSI and Mayweather. Without giving it a moment’s notice, Paul gave his answer.

“KSI for sure, for sure,” said Paul during an interview with True Geordie. “Not even a competition.”

Despite being nailed by hard shots throughout, Paul has stated on numerous occasions that he was never in any serious trouble during his showdown against Mayweather. On the contrary, Paul appeared to be on wobbly legs at numerous points throughout his contest against KSI. In the third round, in particular, KSI connected on a hard right hand that saw Paul hit the deck.

Fortunately for the social media star, referee Jack Reiss deemed the knockdown a slip. Still, even with that distinction, Paul appeared far more interested in boxing and moving throughout the duration of their contest as opposed to engaging.

Having felt the power of both KSI and Mayweather, Paul is simply of the belief that KSI’s punching power is far superior to that of the former five-division world champion.

“[Floyd’s] clean shots, I was like, cool, good shot. KSI I’m like, keep my f*cking face away from those hands.”

KSI On Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul Rumors: “Why Would Mayweather Want To Fight Second Best When He Could Just Easily Fight The Best?”

Posted on 09/24/2020

By: Hans Themistode

Even at the age of 43 and officially away from the sport of boxing for roughly three years, Floyd Mayweather can still pick and choose whomever he wants to fight.

Matchups against UFC stars in Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov made sense to the Mixed Martial world. Other contests against his fellow boxing counterparts in Manny Pacquiao and even the recently un-retired Oscar De La Hoya made sense as well. But with rumors or Mayweather inking an agreement to face YouTube star and part-time boxer Logan Paul, many gave an incredulous look. Amongst them, was the man who handed Paul his defeat in the ring in KSI.

“Why the fuck would Mayweather say yes to this? Why would he fight the loser of me and Logan? I was A-side for both fights,” said KSI on his YouTube channel. “Surely Mayweather would just wanna fight the winner of me vs Logan, it just makes more sense.”

Both KSI and Logan Paul share a long history with one another. One that was thought to be settled already.

In late August of 2018, the pair stepped into the ring against one another to end the debate of who the better fighter was. That question was never answered as their first matchup ended in a draw. Fast forward one year later and the two would do it again. This time around, KSI saw himself leave the ring with a close, but clear split decision win.

For Mayweather, the word ‘lose’ has never been associated with his name. After a perfect 50-0 record, the future first ballot hall of famer has repeatedly called himself the best ever. But if that truly is the case, KSI is wondering why the hell would he be interested in facing anyone but him.

“Why would Mayweather want to fight second best when he could just easily fight the best? I like Logan, I can say that – but he did lose. He had a draw then he lost.”

KSI vs Logan Paul Was Just The Beginning

Posted on 11/19/2019

When Logan Paul and KSI, two social media stars, stepped into the ring against one another in late August of 2018, it was something of a mockery and intriguing all wrapped into one. Both men were by no means considered actual fighters, but their social media followings made it a must see contest.

When the event came to a close, it left a sour taste in the mouths of many as the contest ended in a majority draw. Fast forward one year later and the pair decided to do it again.

On November 9th, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles California, the surprisingly, yet also unsurprisingly highly anticipated rematch took place. Promoting the contest was none other than Eddie Hearn. He did a great job of putting together a championship level undercard which would include WBO Super Middleweight titlist Billy Joe Saunders and WBC Lightweight belt holder Devin Haney.

Still, Hearn would say again and again that this contest between Youtubers would be just a one off. Now that the event has come and gone and the numbers have been tallied, Hearn suddenly has a change of heart.

“It has actually changed my stance,” said Hearn. We’re numbers people in this game. Everyone is. Anything that delivers is good news for everybody. What we can’t do is turn into a circus and have random people fighting each other all over the place. It’s a one off in that respect for me in terms of headlining a card, with a world championship undercard. I don’t think you’re going to see that a lot. Will you see other YouTubers fight on undercards moving forward? Much more likely.”

This isn’t exactly the sort of news that older boxing fans wanted to hear. Many of the older fans of the sport felt that two fighters who haven’t had any serious experience in a boxing ring shouldn’t have been headlining such a major card in one of the most famed arenas in the world. Yet, it happened and those same fans are hoping to never see it again.

Don’t hold your breath.

We could be headed for more of these celebrity style matchups in the not so distant future.

Don’t simply cast aspersions on Hearn. These high profile contests could come from just about every promoter down the line.

“If it’s thrilling, if it’s exciting, you’re going to see many more of these, and it won’t just come from me,” said Hearn. “It will come from other promoters who look at the numbers and say, ‘we’ve got to do this.’ We can’t satisfy the demand of all of these celebrities and YouTubers.”

It might not be what fans wanted to hear, but it is a reality they will now have to deal with.

KSI Defeats Logan Paul by Split Decision in Bizarre Fight

The biggest contest in boxing has officially taken place.

No, we aren’t talking about Deontay Wilder’s title defense against Luis Ortiz on November 23rd. Nor are we referring to unified Heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz taking on Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia on December 7th.

We are of course discussing the two widely popular internet sensations KSI and Logan Paul.

The two squared off live at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles California in front of a star studded crowd.

The contest was a continuation of their first bout from last year which ended in a draw. The first bout was considered an amateur boxing event. This time around, they decided to ditch the headgear and turn professional to compete in a six round bout.

Hardcore boxing fans may have found this event to be nothing more than a joke, but others found it to be very interesting. The attention that these two generated even grabbed the attention of the betting public as young boxing star Ryan Garcia revealed that he laid down ten thousand dollars on Logan Paul to win the contest.

This event wasn’t just for casual fans. WBC Lightweight champion Devin Haney outclassed Alfredo Santiago. While WBO Suppr Middleweight titlist Billy Joe Saunders knocked out the obscure Marcelo Esteban Coceres in the 11th round.

With those contests out of the way, everyone’s attention was now shifted to the main event.
Without a great deal of experience for either man, much of the bout looked sloppy and uncoordinated.

As soon as the opening bell rang, KSI wasted no time trying to make it a short night. He swung wildly at Logan but didn’t land anything significant. Logan seemed to be the calmer of the two, but still, he didn’t flash much offense either in the opening round.

The following round was much of the same as it turned into a slug fest with both men looking for the knockout. Surprisingly enough, KSI landed several jabs throughout the round which seemed to give him the edge.

Things got really heated in the third round. KSI landed a shot to the back of the head of Logan which sent him to the deck. He managed to bounce back up as the referee for some reason ruled it as a slip rather than a knockdown. In the following round, Logan returned the favor as he landed an upper cut which landed right on the money.

The punch actually looked like one that a professional fighter would throw.

As KSI went crashing down, Logan got a bit too excited and hit him in the back of the head while he was already on the ground. That of course triggered the referee to stop the contest and give KSI some time to recover.

Whatever momentum Logan gained in that moment was lost as the referee negated the knockdown and took away two points for his actions.

The final two rounds were lackluster as both men were exhausted.

It was a close contest throughout, but Logan’s point deductions in the fourth round came back to haunt him as he loss a close split decision. The scores were as read, 56-55 for Logan Paul, 57-54 for KSI and 56-55 for KSI once again.

After the bout, Logan Paul showed a genuine amount of respect for his opponent.

“You are one of the toughest people I know,” said Logan Paul. “I don’t like being a dick to you.”

With their everlasting feud now behind them, the sport of boxing will look to return back to normal. Then again, maybe a contest like this will happen once again.

Fight Preview: KSI vs. Logan Paul, Billy Joe Saunders vs. Coceres

Posted on 11/08/2019

By: William Holmes

On Saturday night Matchroom Boxing will put on a fight card at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. This card will be televised live on DAZN and features a main event between two fighters with no professional boxing experience.

However, they are YouTube stars, and will attract an audience to the sport that traditionally does not watch boxing.

KSI and Logan Paul will meet in a rematch of their fight from 2018 that resulted in a majority draw. Their first fight was fought with headgear and was not considered a professional fight, however this fight won’t feature headgear and is considered a professional fight.

The co-main event of the evening is a WBO Super Middleweight Title Fight between Billy Joe Saunders and Marcelo Esteban Coceres. The undercard will feature boxers such as WBC Lightweight Champion Devin Haney, Ronny Rios, NIkit Ababiy, Diego Pacheco, and Isaiah Ocasio.

The following is a preview of the co-main event and main event of the evening.

Billy Joe Saunders (28-0) vs. Marcel Esteban Coceres (28-0-1); WBO Super Middleweight Title

Billy Joe Saunders had been with long time promoter Frank Warren, but has recently decided to sign with Matchroom Boxing and promoter Eddie Hearn with the hopes to face Canelo Alvarez in the future.

Saunders is often overlooked when discussing middleweight boxers, but his skill and talent is undeniable. However, a failed VADA test might have helped diminish his standing amongst boxing aficionados.

Saunders, at 30 years old, is still in his athletic prime and will have a two inch height advantage on his opponent. Coceres is twenty eight years old and is taking a big step up in competition.

The one area that Coceres has an edge on Saunders is ring activity. Coceres fought twice in 2019 and five times in 2018 while Saunders only fought once in 2019 and once in 2018. Both boxers have moderate power, with Saunders stopping thirteen of his opponents while Coceres has stopped fifteen.

Saunders has beaten the likes of David Lemieux, Willie Monroe Jr., Andy Lee, Chris Eubank Jr., John Ryder, and Gary O’ Sullivan. He was also a participant in the 2008 Olympic Games.

Coceres has spent his entire career fighting in Argentina except for one fight. His list of victories is over lesser known opponents, including Basilio Silva, Cristian Zarate, and Sebastian Lujan. He has no notable amateur experience.

This is a showcase fight for Saunders as he looks to impress a crowd that may not be familiar with his work. Coceres has a good record, but there’s little behind it. This writer expects Saunders to win rather easily on Saturday.

Logan Paul (0-0) vs. KSI (0-0); Cruiserweights

How do you preview a main event between two boxers making their professional debut?

It should be noted that they met before, at the Manchester Arena in front of 18,000 fans over six rounds. Their fight ended in a draw, with Logan Paul dominating early on but KSI coming back strong in the second half of the fight.

The scores of the fight were 57-57, 57-57, and one judge scored it 58-57 for KSI.

Paul is two years younger than KSI and will have about a two inch reach advantage.

It’s been nearly a year since they last fought and both YouTube personalities have been working hard. It should be noted that Logan Paul is a former amateur wrestler so he has more experience than KSI in going through grueling workouts.

Both guys have over 40 million YouTube subscribers between them so they should draw a decent crowd to watch them online and in person.

If Paul can improve his stamina and conditioning and not showboat during the fight like he did last time, he should come out on top.

But this is a tough fight to predict and a lot can change in one year. The question is, which man has truly committed himself to training?

Based on nothing but speculation, this writer gives a slight edge to Logan Paul.
