Sergio Martinez Plans To Honor 911 Heros Next Sat

New York, NY – (9/21/2011) – Next Saturday, the #1 middleweight and top three pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (47-2-2, 26KO’s) will be putting his WBC Middleweight Diamond belt and Ring Championship on the line against undefeated European Champion “Dazzling” Darren Barker (23-0, 14KO’s) at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. The show, entitled “Noche de ‘Maravilla’: Martinez vs. Barker”, is being presented by DiBella Entertainment, in association with Matchroom Sport, and Caesars Atlantic City, and is sponsored by Corona.

With the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 just passing, Martinez made it clear to his promoter, Lou DiBella, founder and President of DiBella Entertainment, that he wanted to do something to honor the fallen heros of that tragic day.

“Sergio told me that he wanted to do something to honor the heros of 9/11,” said DiBella. “We tossed around a few ideas with him, and ultimately Sergio decided that he wanted to offer discounted tickets to all members of the armed forces, both active and veterans, and all members of any first-respond units: policemen, firemen, EMT workers. It is Sergio’s way of giving back, and in honoring the anniversary of 9/11.”
