Pacquiao vs. Marquez Round by Round Results: Juan Manuel Marquez Knocks Out Manny Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2) and Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1) fought for the fourth time tonight at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The atmosphere was electric as several celebrities, including former Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

All three fights on the undercard went to decision so the main event did not start until after midnight. The Mexican national anthem was sung first, followed by the Filipino national anthem and then the American national anthem.

The crowd could be hear chanting “Mexico, Mexico” as the video introductions were playing. Juan Manuel Marquez was the first fighter to make his way into the ring and the crowd in attendance was singing along to his entrance music.

The crowd was apparently pro Marquez as Pacquiao was greeted with a few boos as he walked out into the ring.

Michael Buffer made the official introductions for this highly anticipated bout.

Round 1:

Pacquiao and Marquez came out to the center of the ring and Pacquiao threw the first punches of the night and both fighters landed straight punch crosses early on in the round. Pacquiao landed a short right hook to the body of Marquez and a straight left hand. Marquez landed a jab to the body of Pacquiao. Pacquiao is showing a lot of head movement. Pacquiao connected with another straight left hand. Marquez landed a short hook to the body and Pacquiao answered with a short uppercut. Close round, but Pacquiao was the aggressor.

Round 2:

Marquez looked like he is waiting to counter Pacquiao when he comes forward. Both fighters also appeared to be tense in this round still. Pacquiao connected with a straight left to the body of Marquez and landed a straight left hand. Marquez answered with two body shots. Pacquiao connected with another straight left hand. The corwd is strongly in favor of Marquez. Pacquiao landed a very hard left hand to his chin. Marquez tags Pacquiao with a straight right hand. Pacquiao touched the nose of Marquez with a short jab. Marquez landed a short left hook upstairs. Marquez landed a right hand near the end of the round.

Round 3:

Marquez landed the first punch of the round with a short left hook upstairs. Marquez barely misses with a left hook. Pacquiao landed a two punch combination and a straight jab to the body of Marquez. Pacquiao landed another two punch combination then follows it with a good straight left hand. Pacquiao landed another jab, but Marquez connected with a hard hook to the body. Marquez landed another left hook to the body of Pacquiao. Marquez landed a vicious right hook to Pacquiao and knocked him down. Marquez landed a good left uppercut on Pacquiao after Pacquiao gets back to his feet.

Round 4:

The crowd is energized after the knockdown by Marquez. Marquez throws a lead left hook that is blocked by Pacquiao. Marquez throws another lead left hook. Marquez landed another straight right hand. Pacquiao connected with a straight left hand. Marquez ducks a lead right hook by Pacquiao. Pacquiao and Marquez exchange crosses again. Pacquiao connected with a straight left hand and a combination. Pacquiao landed another straight left hand.

Round 5:

Pacquiao and Marquez started off round five a little more cautious than the other rounds. Pacquiao landed the first punch of the round with a straight left hand. Pacquiao connected with two more straight left hands. Pacquiao knocked Marquez down with a straight left hand when his glove touched the canvas. Marquez landed a hard right hand and Pacquiao connected with a straight left hand of his own. Marquez landed a straight right hand to his nose. Pacquiao connected with a hard right hand left cross combnaiton. Marquez is wobbly and Pacquiao comes forward looking for the finish. Pacquiao landed another straight left hand and they are exchanging by the corner. Marquez is bleeding badly from his nose.

Round 6:

The crowd is going insane. Pacquiao landed another straight left hand. Pacquiao connected with a right hook. Marquez connected with a stiff jab to the face of Pacquiao. Pacquiao connected with a combination but Marquez fired back. Pacquiao landed another straight left hand and they exchange again in the middle of the ring. Pacquiao connected with another two punch combination. Marquez’s nose looks to be broken. Marquez landed a hard right hook. Marquez connected with a good jab to the face of Pacquiao. Marquez connected with a two punch combination. Pacquiao landed a straight left cross. Marquez hit Pacquiao with a jab. Marquez landed a hook at the end of the round and Pacquiao is out cold.

Juan Manuel Marquez knocked out Pacquiao with a perfectly timed straight right hand at 2:59 of round six.
