James DeGale Retains European Super Middleweight Title

James DeGale (12-1) defeated Sanavia (45-6-1) to retain the European Super Middleweight title by TKO in the 4th round. DeGale was a 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist, and by all reports had a very easy time with Sanavia. DeGale scored four knockdowns in the fourth round before the referee called off the fight.

Marvin Quintero Defeats Al Sabaupan, Mijares Knockouts Julio

In an IBF lightweight title eliminator, Marvin Quintero (25-3) defeated Al Sabaupan by 9th round TKO. With the win Quintero is now the No. 1 contender and mandatory challenger to face IBF champion Miguel Vazquez. Quintero is promoted by Gary Shaw. Also on the card, Cristian Mijares defeated Eddy Julio by knockout in the fourth round. Mijares improves his record to 45-6-2 and has now won nine consecutive fights.

Boxing for Charity Event Results with Thomas “the Hitman” Hearns

A Charity Boxing Event with Thomas “the Hitman” Hearns for the Nate Tubbs Group Home & Amateur Boxing Program was held this weekend. 2008 Nigerian Olympic qualifier Olandrewaju Durodola improved his record to 9-0 as he scored a 1st round knockout over Calvin Rooks (3-4). John L. Smith Jr. (11-0) defeated Ralph Lawrence with scores of 59-55, 58-56, and 58-56. Smith is trained by James “Buster” Douglas.

New Ray Robinson vs. Cauthen Announced

Philadelphia based prospect, Ray Robinson, will be taking on Terrance Cauthen in a welterweight contest at the Newtown Athletic Club in Newton, PA. The card features seven fights and will mainly focus on a Philadelphia vs. New Jersey rivalry. Cauthen was a member of the 1996 USA Olympic team. Drzystztof “Diablo” Wldarcyzk Calls Out Antonio Tarver

WBC Cruiserweight champion, Krzysztof “Diablo” Wlodarczyk (46-2) has called out Antonio Tarver for turning down the opportunity to fight him and instead take on Lateef Kayode. “I was not surprised by his decision,” said Wlodarczyk. “I said to my promoters, Andrew Wasilewski and Leon Margules, that a fight between Tarver and me will never happen. He is an intelligent guy and knows he has a very small chance of surviving 12 rounds with me. He realizes I’m too strong and too hungry for him. It’s that simple.”

Aces Boxing Club Opens in Boonton

More boxing clubs seem to be closing rather than opening nowadays, but Aces Boxing Club has announced that it has opened a new facility on Main Street in Boonton following a flood at the previous Fairfield location. The club is being opened by former Air Force veteran and boxing and strength/conditioning coach Joseph Zabry. More information on the gym can be found at www.acesboxingclub.com

Lange vs. Jeter Announced for June 23rd at the Patriot Center in Virginia

Jimmy Lange boxing officials announced a 10 round middleweight bout between Jimmy Lange (38-4-2) and Tony Jeter (13-3-1) at the Patriot Center in Virginia. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com. Also on the card will be WBC and WIBA female middleweight champion Tori Nelson (6-0-1) and undefeated junior welterweight Todd Wilson (13-0).

Star Boxing Plans For a Busy May

Joe DeGuardia’s Star boxing is ready to present three boxing events at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY, Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, NY, and the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. May 2nd will feature heavyweight contender Vinny Maddalone, May 5th will feature junior middleweight Demetrius Andrade, and May 18th will be a Friday Night Fights card headlined by undefeated junior welterweights Ray Serrano and Karim Mayfield. Battle of the Badges 4 Announced For Foxwoods Casino

Battle of the Badges 4, featuring bouts between FDNY and N.E. Law Enforcement has been announced for May 19th at the Foxwoods Resorts Casino. It is an amateur boxing event that will start at 7:00P at the Fox Theatre in the Foxwoods Casino.

USA Boxing Hosts Benefit For April 24th, featuring Boxing Greats and Olympic Hopefuls

USA Boxing hosts a benefit on April 24th during a fundraiser in Veberly Hills. Laila Ali, Evander Holyfield, and other boxing greats are planned to be in attendance to celebrate the USA team and the inclusion of Women’s boxing into the Olympics. USA Boxing is the national governing body for U.S. Amateur Boxing. Emanuel Steward, Michael Buffer, and Larry Merchant, Wladimir Klitchko, and Tito Ortiz are also planned attendees. Danny Garcia Honored by Philadelphia

Philadelphia is a fight city, and Danny Garcia will be joining the ranks of esteemed Philadelphia boxing champions Joe Frazier and Bernard Hopkins as the newest world champion from the city of Brotherly love. He was honored on April 23rd at a special reception with Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter.

Top Rank Signs Jesse Hart

Top Rank announced the signing of Jesse Hart to an exclusive long-term promotional agreement. He is the son of Eugene “Cyclone” Hart, a highly ranked middleweight contender in the 60’s and 70’s. He will be making his professional debut on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley undercard. Hart is based out of Philadelphia, and had an amateur record of 85-11 as well as winning the National Golden Gloves at 165lbs.

Gabriel Rosado and Joel Julio to Fight for WBO Inter-Continental Title

Peltz Boxing announced that the scheduled junior middleweight clash between Gabriel Rosado and Joel Julio on June 1st at the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, PA will be for the WBO Inter-Continental Title. It will be the main event of a seven bout card in the new 1,800 seat Events Center at the Sands Resort Casino, and will be the third installment of the NBC Sports Network Fight Night series.

Maweather Jr. vs Miguel Cotto to be For WBC Diamond Belt

The WBC has announced that the matchup between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto will be for the WBC Diamond Belt on May 5th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The only other boxer to hold a WBC Diamond belt are Manny Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins, and Sergio Martinez.

Hall vs. Webb to be a British Middleweight Title Eliminator

Matthew Hall will be taking on Sam Webb in a British Light-Middleweight title eliminator on April 28th at Royal Albert Hall in addition to Billy Joe Saunders English Middleweight title challenge against Tony Hill. It will be broadcast on boxnation and tickets can be bought at www.frankwarren.tv or www.royalalberthall.com.

Senchenko-Malignaggi Undercard Announced

Vyacheslav Senchenko (32-0) will be taking on Pauli Malignaggi (30-4) for the WBA welterweight world title on April 29th. It can be viewed through pay-per-view or online at www.gofightlive.tv. WBC Inter-Continental Cruiserweight Champion Iago Kildaze (18-0) will be taking on WBC Mediterranean title-holder Julien Perriauz (15-8) in the co-feature. Volodymyr Kravests (25-1) will be defending his IBC welterweight crown against Abdoulaye Soukouna (14-10-6).

Jackson Brothers Headling Sampson Boxing’s Boxing in Paradise V

The Jackson Brothers will be headlining Sampson Boxing’s Boxing in Paradise V on Wednesday, April 25th in St. Thomas Virgin Islands. John Jackson (12-0) will be defending his WBC Super Welterweight Youth World Title against Jesus Selig (14-0-1). His brother Julius Jackson (12-0) will be facing Wilson Theophile (8-3)

European Olympic Quota Places Revealed

26 boxers from 10 different weight categories qualified for the London 2012 Olympic Games at the finals of the AIBA European Olympic Qualifying Event Trabzon 2012 in Turkey. They are as follows: Light Flyweight: Ferhat Pehlivan from Turkey, Aleksander Aleksandrov from Bulgaria, Patrick Barnes from Ireland, Manuel Fabricio Cappai from Italy. Flyweight: Nordine Oubaali from France, Selguk Eker from Turkey, and Salomo N’Tuve from Sweden. Bantamweight: Pavlo Ishchenko from Ukraine, Magomed Abdulhamidov from Azerbaijan, Denis Ceylan from Denmark, and Merab Turkadze from Georgia. Lightweight: Evaldas Petrauskas from Lithuania, Vazgen Safaryants from Belarus, Fatih Keles from Turkey, and Josh Taylor from Cotland. Light Welterweight: Yakup Sener from Turkey. Welterweigh: Adam Patrick Nolan from Ireland, Patrick Wojcicki from Germany. Middlweight: Adem Kilicci from Turkey, Anthony Ogogo from England. Light Heavyweight: Bahram Muzaffer from Turkey, Vatan Huseynli from Azerbaijan, and Mikhail Dauhaliavets from Belarus. Heavyweight: Tervel Pulev from Bulgaria. Super Heavyweight: Magomed Omarov from Russia, and Tony Yoka from France.

Kid Chocolate Ready for Winky Wright

Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin has been training hard at the Wild Card Gym for his upcoming bout against Ronald “Winky” Wright on June 2nd on Showtime. In talking about Wright, Quillin said “I love crabmeat. It’s in a shell and you have to crack it to get to the meat. That’s what I’m going to do to ‘Winky’; hit his arms, body, all over- take no prisoners!”

Daniel Ponce De Leon vs. Eduardo Lazcano & Ishe Smith vs. Derrick Ennis Announced

On May 4th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas will be holding bouts between Daniel Ponce De Leon and Eduardo Lazcano, as well as Ishe Smith and Derrick Ennis. The card is being presented by Mayweather Promotions as well as Golden Boy Promotions, and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Regional Networks. Tickets can be bought at www.ticketmaster.com
