Tony Luis Inks Deal with Greg Cohen Promotions

By Hans Olson

Undefeated Canadian light welterweight prospect Tony “The Lightning” Luis (14-0) has signed a multi-year promotional deal with American-based promoter Greg Cohen.

“We’re excited about working with Greg,” said Tony’s advisor Matt Yanofsky to Boxing Insider Thursday evening.

“I have a personal relationship with him and his staff. They’re amongst the hardest working people in boxing and he is very loyal to his fighters. Together, I know the sky is the limit for Tony.”

“Tony has all of the tools to become not only an excellent fighter but a well marketed athlete” continued Yanofsky. “He works with troubled youths, is a role model for kids, speaks multiple languages, and has excellent skills inside the squared circle. His future is extremely bright and he’s one of boxing’s best kept secrets.”

Luis, 24, was initially with Yvon Michel’s GYM promotional outfit. He’s fought each of his 14 bouts in Quebec, and while he will likely remain a presence in regional cards where he draws good crowds, Tony and his team clearly wish to make a splash in the States as well.

“Greg’s done a great job of building his fighters in America and has one of the fastest rising stars in Austin Trout,” says Yanofsky.

“He is respected and maintains a good relationship with all of the promoters, so his ability to move fighters and connections will be a huge part of making Tony a notable fighter in the US.”
