Carlos Molina and Amir Khan followed today’s earlier CBS bout featuring Leo Santa Cruz with their fight broadcast on Showtime from the Los Angeles Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California.

They wasted little time in starting the first bout of the evening between Alfredo Angulo (21-2) and Jorge Silva (18-2-2) in the junior middleweight division. Angulo weighed nine pounds heavier than his opponent tonight, despite the fact they both made the 154 pound limit yesterday.

Silva was a heavy underdog coming into the fight but he performed much better than expected. Jorge Silva was able to eat the best punches of Alfredo Angulo and catch him with several overhand rights that stunned Angulo and surprised many in the crowd. Angulo had Silva hurt in round two with a straight right hand. There was several moments of fierce exchanges between both fighters, but Angulo landed the harder punches and landed them more often.

Silva put a good and entertaining fight but he still lost the fight. The judges scored it 97-93 on all three cards for Alfredo Angulo.

The next fight of the night was between United States Olympian Deontay Wilder (25-0) and Kelvin Price (13-0) in the heavyweight division. This fight started off slowly and Wilder spent the first two rounds trying to feel out his opponent and look for his opening. That opening came in round three when Wilder landed a vicious overhand right that dropped Price to the ground. The referee waived off the fight at 0:51 of round three.

Deontay Wilder scored his 26th knockout in his 26th fight and he continues his ascent up the ladder of the heavyweight division.

The main event of the night was between Carlos Molina (17-0-1) and Amir Khan (26-3) in the junior welterweight division.

There’s an old saying that speed kills. That saying rang true tonight.

Amir Khan was aggressive from the beginning of the fight to the end of the fight. The crowd exploded at nearly every combination Khan threw and Molina had no answer for the extremely quick hands of his opponent. Molina was able to land a few punches, especially his short right hooks, but Khan was able to withstand the power of Molina.

If Molina had a little more power he might have hurt Khan, but Khan was able to withstand the punches of the undefeated and smaller lightweight.

Khan did show good movement and landed a high rate of power punches. He was able to bounce in and out and throw and land crisp quick combinations. Molina suffered a cut over his eye and ate several hard combinations. The corner of Molina threatened to stop the fight before the tenth round if Molina did not show more, but Molina was unable to do anything but eat the combinations of Amir Khan. Molina’s corner stopped the fight at the end of the ninth round.

Amir Khan wins by TKO at the end of the ninth round.

Afterwards Amir Khan called out Danny Garcia and asked for a rematch.
