Tonight’s ShoBox card featured talent fighting under the banner of Mayweather promotions in the fight capital of Las Vegas. It featured the undefeated Jessie Vargas and the dangerous St. Louis native Deandre Latimore.
Deandre Latimore took on Milton Nunez in the opening bout of the night, and was the heavy favorite. He looked good early on, but was hurt in the later rounds as Latimore got knocked down twice. Latimore landed the harder shots throughout the night, and was able to secure an early lead that Nunez was unable to overcome. If the fight had one or two more rounds, Nunez might have pulled off the upset. Luckily for Latimore, it was only a ten round affair and he survived the victory.
Undefeated Jessie Vargas took on the tough veteran Lanardo Tyner. Vargas controlled the action of the fight, and nearly won every round. This bout featured multiple low blows, punches after the bell rang, and a clinch that saw both fighters fall through the ropes. Vargas looked good however, and used a steady early body attack to wear down his opponent. There really was no question as to who won the fight when the final bell rung, and hopefully Vargas takes a step up in competition in the near future.

Deandre Latimore (22-3) vs. Milton Nunez (23-3-1); Junior Middleweight
Round 1:
Latimore and Nunez come out to the center, and Nunez appears to have the height and reach advantage. Latimore bounces two jabs off the guard of Nunez. Nunez partially lands an uppercut as Latimore comes in. Latimore bounces another jab off the guard of Nunez. Nunez lands an over the top left hand. Latimore comes forward and lands a hard body shot. Nunez eats a jab from Latimore as Latimore sits in the center of the ring. Both fighters are still trying to find their range. Latimore barely misses with a two punch combination. Nunez misses with a counter right hand, but lands a good right uppercut to the body of Latimore. Not much action in the last ten seconds of the round. 10-9 round for Latimore.
Round 2:
Nunez takes the center of the ring and Latimore stays on the outside, and easily ducks a right hook from Nunez. Latimore continues to use his jab to find his range. Latimore partially lands a right cross. Latimore misses with another jab, and continues to stay on the outside. Latimore ducks under a straight right hand from Nunez, but immediately eats a jab right after. Neither fighter seems eager to really press the action. Nunez partially lands a combination in the center of the ring, and lands a right cross to the body in the center of the ring. Nunez keeps Latimore at bay with a double jab, and connects with a decent straight right hand. A right hand from Nunez bounces off the guard of Latimore and sends him moving backwards. Latimore lands a very good jab, and follows it up with a two punch combination. Latimore lands a good right hook to the body, and Nunez answers with hard hooks that are partially blocked. 10-9 round for Nunez.
Round 3:
Latimore gets tagged with hooks to the body and head from Nunez. Nunez lands two hooks to the body and Latimore lands upstairs. A solid jab lands for Latimore. Nunez’s jab beats Latimore’s jab. Latimore connects with a good right hook to the body. A straight right hand from Latimore is blocked by Nunez. Latimore backs Nunez into the corner and connects with a body head combination. Latimore lands a good left hook upstairs, and misses with a wild uppercut. Another jab lands for Latimore. Latimore lands a double right hook to the body of Nunez. Latimore connects with a right hook to the head of Nunez. A combination connects for Latimore. Nunez bounces a right cross of the guard of Latimore. 10-9 round for Latimore.
Round 4:
Latimore continues to use his jab as a range finder while circling on the outside. Latimore stabs a stiff jab in the face of Nunez. Nunez connects with a soft jab. Latimore ducks under a straight right hand from Nunez. A straight left hand connects for Latimore. Nunez bounces two punches off the guard of Latimore. Nunez lands a straight right hand. A left hand misses for Latimore, but he keeps his guard up and blocks the counter punches of Nunez. Nunez gets warned for a possible low blow. Latimore lands a straight left hand, and is walking down Nunez. Another jab connects for Latimore. Latimore partially lands a wild left hand, but connects with a good right hook to the body. A left hook connects for Nunez, and an overhand right also finds it’s target. Close round, 10-9 for Latimore.
Round 5:
Nunez slips an early Latimore jab. Nunez connects with a jab of his own. Nunez slips another jab from Latimore. Latimore hasn’t really thrown any punches of significance in the first minute of the round. Nunez bounces a combination off the guard of Latimore. Latimore comes forward with a combination that is partially blocked. Latimore takes a combination to the body from Nunez, and answers it with a straight left hand. Nunez partially lands another combination. Latimore connects with another straight left hand, and partially lands a right jab. Latimore misses with a left hook to the body, and Nunez pushes Latimore with his left hand. Latimore connects with a good straight left hand near the end of the round, and both fighters throw after the bell rings. 10-9 round for Nunez.
Round 6:
Nunez has his straight right hand blocked by Latimore. Nunez comes forward with a two jab right cross combination. Nunez stalks Latimore, and bangs hooks to the body of Latimore near the ropes. A straight right hand connects for Nunez. Latimore bounces another straight left hand off the guard of Nunez, and a very, very, hard straight left hand connects for Latimore. Nunez answers with straight right hands that are partially blocked by Latimore. Two more straight left hands connect for Latimore. Latimore connects with a straight left hand and a right hook. Latimore thuds a left uppercut to the body of Nunez, and bounces two more jabs off the face of Nunez. Nunez throws a double jab combination that is partially blocked. Latimore misses with a wild left hook. Nunez bounces another combination off the guard of Latimore. Latimore finishes the round with a flurry. 10-9 round for Latimore.
Round 7:
Nunez uses a pawing jab to find his range. Nunez partially connects with a hard left hand, and bangs a clubbing right hand off the guard of Latimore. Latimore connects with a double left hook to the body of Nunez. Two more good body shots land for Latimore. Latimore lands a hard uppercut on Nunez by the corner. Nunez eats another good right jab from Latimore. Latimore has Nunez trapped near the other corner, but Nunez is able to punch his way out. Nunez lands another jab, and Latimore glances a wild left hand off of Nunez’s chin. Another straight left hand sends Nunez moving backwards. Nunez lands a counter hook but Latimore shakes it off. A decent right uppercut lands for Latimore, and Latimore lands a good straight left hand that appears to have hurt Nunez. Latimore pummels Nunez by the corner, but Nunez answers with hard right hands. 10-9 round for Latimore.
Round 8:
Latimore and Nunez come out to the center of the ring, and Nunez was clearly hurt last round but appears to have his legs back. Latimore stays patient and works behind his jab. Latimore lands a good jab to the body of Nunez. Latimore bangs another jab off the guard of Nunez. Latimore bangs another combination off the guard of Nunez. Latimore sticks another jab in the face of Nunez, and Nunez partially lands a right hook. Latimore misses with a jab. Latimore misses with another quick jab. Nunez connects with a decent check left hook upstairs. Latimore bangs another straight left hand upstairs. Nunez connects with another left hook upstairs, but is sent backwards by a straight left hand. Nunez is able to fight his way out of trouble by the corner. Not a bad round for Nunez, 10-9 for him.
Round 9:
Latimore uses his jab to keep Nunez at bay. Latimore probes more with his jab, and connects with a good one while Nunez misses with a combination. Latimore misses with a jab, but attacks and bangs the body of Nunez. Nunez gets warned for holding behind the head of Latimore. Latimore barely misses with another jab, and remains elusive on the outside. Latimore comes forward with a straight left hand, and covers up to block a counter combination from Nunez. Latimore lands a jab to the body of Nunez. Latimore connects with a soft right hand, and Nunez lands a decent left hook. Latimore continues to circle away from the power hand of Nunez. Nunez lands a hard right hand that hurts Latimore, Latimore eats a vicious combinations from Nunez by the corner, and Latimore tries to hold on but goes down. Latimore gets a standing eight count from the referee. 10-8 round for Nunez.
Round 10:
Latimore was clearly hurt badly in the last round. Nunez slips a straight left hand from Latimore, and connects with a straight right hand. Two straight left hands land for Latimore. Nunez is stalking Latimore, and Latimore is on his bike trying to avoid trouble. Another right hand lands for Nunez, and Latimore tries to hold on. Nunez continues to stalk Latimore, and a right hand to the body sends Nunez backwards. Another jab misses from Nunez. Nunez misses with a wild left hook, and eats a jab from Latimore. Nunez continues to stalk Latimore but is unable to trap Latimore. Latimore continues to move to his left and lands a good left hook. Latimore lands a good jab on Nunez. A straight right hand grazes off the head of Latimore. Latimore goes down again from a punch by Nunez. Nunez comes right back out on the attack and Latimore circles away in an attempt to survive. 10-8 round for Nunez.

Jessie Vargas (17-0) vs. Lanarado Tyner (25-6-2); Welterweight
Round 1:
Vargas quickly almost has Tyner trapped in a corner, and lands two thudding jabs when they ar e able to get out of there. They clinch by the corner and exchange short body shots. They clinch again in what appears to be a Greco roman wrestling move. Varags lands a good jab and hook to the body of Tyner. Vargas stabs another jab to the body and continues to assault the body of Tyner. A good overhand right lands for Vargas. Vargas continues his vicious body attack on Tyner. Tyner connects with a decent right hook and left hook upstairs. A low blow lands by Vargas and Tyner is given time to re-cooperate. Action resumes and Vargas continues his assault to the body of Tyner. A right hand lands for Tyner , and Vargas resumes his assault to the body of Tyner. They clinch by the ropes, and Tyner lands a hard right hand they exchange hard blows as the round ends. 10-9 round for Vargas.
Round 2:
Tyner and Vargas meet in the center of the ring, and Vargas lands multiple hard jabs off the nose of Tyner. Vargas circles towards the power hand of Tyner, and continues to pop shot Tyner from the outside. Tyner leans in on Vargas by the ropes, and connects with a good left hand upstairs. Vargas bangs a right hook off the guard of Tyner. Vargas bangs another right hook off the body of Tyner. Vargas stabs a jab at the body of Tyner. Vargas connects with another good jab. Vargas comes forward with a lead left hook. Tyner lands a hard right hand, and Vargas answers with a good combination of his own. Vargas is landing his jab at will this round. Vargas stabs another jab at the body of Tyner. A left hook to the body connects for Tyner. 10-9 round for Vargas.
Round 3:
Tyner misses with a left hook, and eats a body combination from Vargas. Vargas connects with a good left hook upstairs, and Tyner lands an inside uppercut. Vargas doubles up with his left hand and lands flushly to the body and head. Vargas partially lands a jab, and Tyner stabs another jab at the body of Vargas. Vargas continues to stay behind his jab, and connects often. Tyner leans in on Vargas by the corner, and lands some soft shots to the body of Vargas. Vargas bangs more hooks to the body of Tyner. Vargas lands a good uppercuts to the body as he leans in on Tyner by the ropes. Vargas lands another good jab. They exchange shots on the inside, but Vargas lands the harder shots. Tyner partially lands an uppercut. Tyner connects with a good left hook, but Vargas continues his assault to the body. 10-9 round for Vargas.
Round 4:
Tyner comes out firing, and has Vargas backing up from his combinations. Vargas lands good hooks to the body, and Tyner starts trash talking after the combination from Vargas. Vargas thuds a left hook off the body of Tyner. Vargas bangs another right hook off the body of Tyner. They clinch by the ropes, with not much action while they are leaning in on each other. Vargas triples up with his left hand while in close. Another good left uppercut lands for Vargas, and Tyner lands a very low blow on Vargas and he goes down in pain. Vargas is given time to recuperate. The action resumes and Tyner lands some hard thudding body punches, and Vargas answers with low blows of his own and lands another low blow. The referee gives both fighters a very hard warning. Tyner is visibly upset at the low blow by Vargas. Vargas doubles up with his left hand again at the guard of Tyner. Vargas gets pulled to the ground by Tyner, and this fight is quickly turning into an ugly affair. 10-9 round for Vargas.
Round 5:
Vargas and Tyner lean in on each other early in round five, and exchange short shots. Vargas bangs another hook off the guard of Tyner, and throws a combination that causes Tyner to react with some more trash talking. Vargas bangs a jab off the face of Tyner. Vargas circles to the left of Tyner, and lands a good left hook to the body of Tyner. Vargas connects with a good right hook to the body of Tyner, and Vargas lands a good combination on the outside. Vargas continues to circle, and lands a good left hook upstairs. Vargas pushes Tyner off, and lands a good right hook to the body of Tyner. Vargas continues to move well and throw combinations from the outside. Tyner and Vargas are exchanign blows in close, and they are leaning on each other by the ropes. 10-9 round for Vargas.
Round 6:
Vargas starts off round six working behind his jab again, and they clinch by the center of the ring. Vargas connects with two quick flicking jabs. Tyner lands a jab of his own. Vargas is pop shotting Tyner with jabs at will. Tyner using his jab in response, but is not landing. Tyner connects with another jab and has Vargas moving backwards now. Vargas flicks another good jab off the nose of Tyner. Vargas stsabs a good jab off the body of Tyner. Tyner comes forward with a combination to the body. Vargas connects with a nice right hand in the center of the ring. Another good jab lands for Vargas. Vargas is starting to focus his attack upstairs in this round and is not going to the body as much as earilier rounds. Vagas lands a good combination, and Tyner lands an uppercut while they are clinched by the ropes. Vargas bangs a right hook off the guard of Tyner. 10-9 round for Vargas.
Round 7:
Vargas and Tyner come out, and Tyner has Vargas backing up. Vargas attacks the body of Tyner and stay son the outside. Tyner comes forward with a right hand, but eats a jab from Vargas. Vargas lands a good combination while staying in on the outside. Tyner continues to jaw at Vargas while they clinch. Vargas continues his assault to the body and Tyner lands a few good shots in on the inside. Better round for Tyner. 10-9 Tyner.
Round 8:
Tyner comes back out and stays behind his jab. Tyner pushes Vargas down to the ground. Tyner flicks out more jabs at the nose of Vargas. Vargas lands a jab at the bod yof Tyner, and two good jabs upstairs. Vargas connects with a good overhand right upstairs. Tyner lands a good straight left to the body, and Vargas may have landed a low blow. Another questionable low blow lands for Vargas, and the referee warns him and gives Tyner time to recuperate. Tyner comes back out firing off combinations and jabs his way in on the inside. The fighters clinch and Tyner and Vargas fall through the ropes outside the ring. Vargas stabs another jab at the body of Tyner. Tyner lands a short left uppercut and an overhand right. Tyner catches Vargas with a short left hook, and Vargas connects with a hard left and right hand to the body of Tyner. Vargas lands another good right hook to the body of Tyner. 10-9 round for Vargas.
Round 9:
Tyner needs the knockout to win. They clinch again by the center of the ring, and Tyner is staying more aggressive this round. They clinch by the center of the ring, and Vargas continues his assault ot the body of Tyner. Vargas lands a good left hook, and Tyner lands some sohrt combinations of his own. Vargas is using his weight and size advantage to bully Tyner around the ring, and lands some good shots on Tyner while in on the inside. Not a bad round, but Vargas is wearing Tyner out. 10-9 for Vargas.
Round 10:
Tyner’s corner tells him before the round starts that he needs the knockout to win. Tyner partially connects with a straight left hand. Vargas stays on the outside and lands a few jabs. Tyner misses with a wild right hand. Vargas is staying light on his feet on the outside and circles to the left of Tyner. Vargas connects with a double jab to the head and the body. Vargas and Tyner clinch up, and Tyner continues to stalk Vargas after they separate. Tyner and Vargas exchange combinations by the corner, but Vargas clearly covers up well. Vargas lands another good jab. Tyner looks tired, and Vargas still looks fresh. 10-9 for Tyner just because he was pressing the action.
