“Irregularities” Reported Found In Erik Morales’ Drug Test

Posted on 10/18/2012

Light welterweight boxer Erik Morales has come up dirty in a pre-fight drug test administered by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

Morales is scheduled to challenge Danny Garcia on Saturday night at the newly-opened Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn in a headline rematch of a fight won by Garcia in March of this year.

There has been no official word on the matter yet, though some of the involved parties have contributed to the rumor mill. As of now, it seems that the fight is still on, though that could change at any moment.

ESPN reports that the substance in question is clenbuterol, which can be used as a weight-cutting aid. Morales failed to make weight in the first meeting between the two fighters, resulting in him being stripped of his world title.

According to ESPN, the fight will go ahead because the USADA indicated that Morales’ “A” sample could be a false positive, and the “B” sample test result used to confirm the initial test finding will not be available until after the fight.
