Thursday, October 13, 2022 | Sony Hall, New York, NY
Broadcast: BXNG TV PPV
Promoter: Larry Goldberg, Boxing Insider Promotions
Boxing Insider Promotions debuted with “New Beginnings” at Sony Hall in the heart of Times Square — a sold-out five-fight card that packed the 500-seat venue well past capacity. The inaugural event established the promotion’s home base in the Broadway theater district and set the tone for what would become a regular series of fight nights across New York and Atlantic City.
MAIN EVENT
Heather “The Heat” Hardy (23-2, 4 KOs) def. Calista Silgado (20-16-3, 15 KOs)
Lightweight — 6 Rounds, 2-Minute Rounds
Result: Unanimous Decision (60-54, 58-56, 58-56)
Weights: Hardy 132¾ — Silgado 130¾
The headliner delivered exactly what the crowd came to see. Hardy, the former WBO featherweight world champion, returned to the ring after a 17-month layoff with new trainer Hector Roca and Henry DeLeon in her corner — and she looked like a fighter with something to prove.
At 40 years old, Hardy had publicly stated that a poor showing against Silgado would force her to seriously consider retirement. It didn’t come to that. Hardy outworked the Colombian veteran from the opening bell, keeping constant pressure and throwing punches in volume while Silgado — an eight-time world title challenger with over 200 rounds of professional experience — stayed game and kept the Brooklynite honest throughout.
The two-minute rounds moved fast. Silgado had her moments, particularly in the second when she upped her work rate, but Hardy listened to Roca’s instructions between rounds and maintained control. By the final bell, both fighters raised their hands, but the scorecards were clear: 60-54 and 58-56 twice, all for Hardy. No knockdowns.
“Silgado is a veteran who has fought everybody,” Hardy said afterward. “I expected this kind of fight, and I prepared for it. I had a lot of rust to shake off.”
CO-FEATURE
Andy Dominguez Velasquez (8-0, 6 KOs) def. Ricardo Caraballo (7-1, 2 KOs)
Flyweight — 6 Rounds
Result: TKO Round 1
Weights: Dominguez 110 — Caraballo 109¼
The undefeated flyweight prospect needed less than a round to make a statement. Dominguez destroyed Caraballo in quick fashion, running his perfect record to 8-0 with his sixth knockout. A fighter to watch.
Ivan “The Volk” Golub (21-1, 16 KOs) def. Wesley “King Wes” Tucker (15-4, 9 KOs)
Welterweight — 10 Rounds
Result: TKO Round 4 (corner stoppage, end of round)
Weights: Golub 150½ — Tucker 152
The USBA welterweight champion, returning after 14 months of inactivity, had a rough start — Tucker landed a left hook in round two that put Golub’s glove on the canvas for a flash knockdown. But the Ukrainian southpaw found his rhythm in the third and took complete control in the fourth, landing sustained combinations that left Tucker unable to continue. Tucker’s corner stopped the fight between rounds.
Golub, who compiled a 270-32 amateur record alongside future world champions Oleksandr Usyk and Vasyl Lomachenko on the Ukrainian national team, improved to 21-1 with 16 knockouts.
Nadim Salloum (9-1, 4 KOs) def. Jorge Leandro Capozucco Ahuad (4-1, 3 KOs)
Super Middleweight — 6 Rounds
Result: TKO Round 6 (1:30)
Salloum systematically broke down the previously unbeaten Capozucco Ahuad over five-plus rounds before the referee waved it off at 1:30 of the sixth.
Petros Ananyan (17-3-2) def. Paulo Cesar Galdino (12-6)
Super Lightweight — 8 Rounds
Result: TKO
Ananyan closed out the card with a stoppage of Galdino in a scheduled eight-round super lightweight bout.
