Ricky Hatton Toasting Pal Jamie Moore

RICKY HATTON will be leading the tributes at a testimonial dinner for one of his closest friends, Jamie Moore this week.

‘The Hitman’ will be the guest speaker at the gala evening being held for the former British, Commonwealth and European light-middleweight champion at De Vere Whites Hotel at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium on April 2.

Moore was forced to retire on medical grounds last year when he was on the brink of a deserved world title fight.

Hatton said: “Jamie is a close friend of mine and it is an honour to be invited to speak at his testimonial evening.

“When I look back at great British fighters never to have won a world title Mooresy is right up there.

“He was a fans fighter and you would never ever see him in a bad fight. He was an entertainer.”

Salford’s Moore won 32 of his 37 contests, and his epic 2006 KO of Matthew Macklin was one of the greatest domestic scraps ever.

Other great wins on his CV include a KO of Italy’s former world champion Michele Piccirillo , Gary Logan, Michael Jones and David Walker.

Ricky added: “It is unlikely that I will ever see another battle as exciting as his win over Matthew Macklin, which deserved every accolade.”

Macklin will be another guest as will Ryan Rhodes who defeated Jamie in a thriller at the end of his career.

Jamie is still involved in boxing through the media and is regularly used as a pundit by Sky Sports.

Tickets for this wonderful event are available from Lyn Wood on 01942 874241. Prices are £60 and £100 VIP. Starts at 6.00pm Dress code: Lounge Suit
