WAYNE POCKET ROCKET McCULLOUGH
TO TAKE PART IN HISTORIC OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY

Former WBC World Boxing Champion Wayne Pocket Rocket McCullough is scheduled to take part in the Olympic Torch relay on Wednesday, June 6 at the border of Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. He will hand over the flame to former 1992 Olympic teammate Michael Carruth at 6:30am at Carrickarnon. There will be a short ceremony before the symbolic handover between the two boxing legends marking the significance of the occassion. Children from schools in Newry and Dundalk will run alongside the torchbearers.

Not only will Wayne be a part of that historic handover, but later in the day he will also carry the Torch for the second time on his native Shankill Road in Belfast. Wayne said “Not many people get to carry the torch once, let alone twice and I’m honored to have been included in this once in a lifetime event.”

This past week Wayne has been visiting his homeland where his daughter, recording artist Wynona Leigh, was supporting Westlife on their Farewell Tour. Wynona was invited as a special guest for their 4 most recent sold out shows in Belfast and was honored to open for MTV’s Best Boyband of all time! Wayne also had the opportunity to work the pads with one of the Westlife members, Nicky Byrne, while in Belfast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVqsyJzR6IU.
