We were able to speak with Sergey about his upcoming title defense.

Sergey Kovalev vs Blake Caparello

Boxing Insider: What do you know about your opponent?

Sergey Kovalev: I don’t think about my opponent at all. I’m just doing my best job for my boxing career.

Boxing Insider: Do you go into fights like this, against an unknown opponent, more cautious or looking for a quick knockout?

Sergey Kovalev: My goal is to get victory from every fight and every championship. And the next fight is next step in my boxing career. It’s the next test to show me who I am.

Boxing Insider: Mohammedi has brought Abel Sanchez in as his trainer. What kind of inside information does Sanchez have on you?

Sergey Kovalev: I don’t care what he has and what he knows about me. Everything will be shown inside the boxing ring.

Boxing Insider: Adonis Stevenson is the “Lineal” light heavyweight champion of the world. Twice, fights have fallen through with you and him. Are you over the possibility of that fight ever happening or do you still want his titles more than other challenges?

Sergey Kovalev: I very much want to kick Adonis “Piece of shit” Stevenson ass and show the whole boxing world that he is not real champion of the world. Maybe he’s local champion! But not world champion.

Boxing Insider: Andre Ward has made his return to the ring. Have you watched his fight and could you two meet at a catch weight in the near future (possibly this fall)?

Sergey Kovalev: I would welcome him to the 175lb division. It’s gonna be interesting.

Boxing Insider: What do you believe is the reason why boxing has seen such a heavy influx of ex-soviet country fighters? (ex. Yourself, Golovkin, Gradovich, Provodnikov, Beterbiev)?

Sergey Kovalev: There was always great fighters from Soviet Union but they didn’t know a road to professional boxing in America.

Boxing Insider: You are known for your extremely heavy punches, but what do you think is your most underrated attribute in your boxing arsenal?

Sergey Kovalev: I don’t know. I know only one thing, that everything I have in my boxing arsenal is bringing success in the fights.

Boxing Insider: Say you do eventually get all the belts in the light heavyweight division. What is your plan after that? Would you ever look to concur another weight class?

Sergey Kovalev: I can only talk about this after the moment when I collect all four championship belts. But we know Adonis “Piece of shit” is running from me. It’s making very bad things for boxing world. But I will catch him.
