UFC 135 Results: Jon Jones Pummels Rampage Jackson

The UFC returns to Denver, Colorado to present a main event of Jon Jones vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson for the light heavyweight championship. This card also features former Pride lightweight champion Takanori Gomi, and quite possibly the last fight of Matt Hughes’ career. The results are as follows.

Nate Diaz (13-7) vs. Takanori Gomi (32-7); Lightweight

Round 1:

Diaz and Gomi paw out a few jabs to try and find their range. Diaz lands a jab, and then lands a jab cross combination that quickly drops Gomi. Gomi gets back to his feet and circles to his right. Gomi swings wildly with a looping right hand that misses. Diaz lands another jab, and a straight right. Diaz lands a jab, and he’s very comfortable on his feet. Gomi lands a hard right to the body of Diaz. Diaz lands a right hook on Gomi. Diaz lands a two punch combination. Gomi lands a right hook to the body of Diaz. Diaz lands a hard two punch combination on Gomi. Diaz lands another jab. Diaz lands another two punch combination, Diaz lands a hard right and a two punch combination knocks Gomi down. Gomi drops down and shoots a low single leg, and Diaz quickly transitions to back control with a double underhook. Diaz landing blows to the side of the head. Gomi back to his feet, buit Diaz continues to batter him against the fence. Diaz just landing at will over and over again. Gomi takes Diaz down but gets trapped in an armbar. Diaz transitions to a triangle choke and squeezes down, Gomi tries to fight it off and Diaz transitions to an armbar and gets the submission. That was a very impressive showing by Nate Diaz.

Travis Browne (11-0-1) vs. Rob Broughton (15-5-1); Heavyweight

Round 1:

Both fighters come out and touch gloves. Browne circles on the outside. Browne’s lands a quick jab. Browne throws an overhand right and misses. Both fighters clinch against the fence. Broughton’s back is against the fence and Brone lands some short lefts to the body of Broughton. Both fighters separate. Broughton throws a quick jab but misses, Browne lands a leg kick to the legs of Broughton. Browne throws a front kick that barely misses. Browne lands an overhand right on Broughton. Browne lands a right cross to the body of Broughton. Browne throws another front kick and misses. Browne lands a straight right. Browne and Broughton exchange leg kicks. Browne lands a quick left hook and Broughton lands a right hook of his own. Fighters briefly clinch against the fence and separate. Browne lands a leg kick and lands a left uppercut that causes Broughton to stumble. They clinch against the fence and Broughton’s back is against the fence. They briefly separate Browne shoots a single leg and gets an easy takedown. Browne quickly transitions to full mount and lands a few shots. Fight round ends with Browne firmly in control in half guard. 10-9 round for Browne.

Round 2:

Broughton lands a quick leg kick to Brown. Brown throws out two jabs and lands a short left hook. Broughton throws an overhand right but misses. Broughton lands an inside leg kick. Browne lands another hard leg kick. Browne lands a right hook to the body of Broughton. Browne throws a front leg kick towards Broughton’s chin but misses. Browne comes forward throwing multiple combinations and lands many. Browne with the muy thai clinch and lands several knees. Browne with an overhook and underhook on Broughton against the fence. The fighters separate and Browne lands a looping overhand right. Browne lands two leg kicks in a row on Broughton. Browne connects with an overhand right. Browne shoots in on a single leg and easily gets the takedown. Browne quickly transitions to full mount and flattens Broughton out. Browne lands a few left hands while Broughton is on the back. Broughton gives up his back and eats some hard hammer fists and uppercuts. 10-9 round for Browne.

Round 3:

Broughton comes out with a double jab and lands the second one. Broughton lands a quick left hook. Broughton looks to be the fresher fighter, but he needs a knockout to win. Broughton lands a hard overhand right and clinches with Browne against the fence. Browne is able to shrug Broughton off and takes Brought down. Browne lands a hard right hand and transitions to half guard. Browne not doing much with his advantageous position on the ground. Referee warns the fighters to start working, and Browne transitions to side mount. Broughtongives up his back and Browne lands some hammer firsts and rights from behind. Browne gets back into full mount position. The fans are beginning to boo. Broughton able to squirm back into full guard. Broughton reaches for a kimura but is unable to get you. Broughton fighting back to his feet as the round ends, and the crowd begins to boo. 10-9 round for Browne.

Ben Rothwell (31-7) vs. Mark Hunt (6-7); Heavyweight

Round 1:

Rothwell and Hunt go to the center and touch gloves. Hunt lands a quick straight left but misses with the straight right. Rothwell shoots in on Hunt but misses. Rothwell lands a straight right. Hunt misses with a left hook. Rothwell misses with a jab. Hunt lands an overhand right. Hunt lands a short left hand and Rothwell quickly takes Mark Hunt down. Rothwell transitions to full mount but Hunt pushes him off. Rothwell in side control and throws a few short elbows. Mark Hunt bounces back to his feet and circles away from Rothwell. Hunt has some blood coming from the side of his head. Rothwell shoots in on Hunt again and has an outside single locked in but is unable to get Mark Hunt down. Hunt throws a left hook that connects. Mark Hunt lands an overhand right. Rothwell shoots in but Mark Hunt stuffs it and movesinto side control. Rothwell appears to be cut obover his right eye. Rothwell shoots in again and gets into side control. Rothwell lands some short elbows and right hands. 10-9 round for Ben Rothwell.

Round 2:

Rothwell and Hunt come out and touch gloves again. Mark Hunt throws and lands a lead left hook. Ben Rothwell shoots for a takedown but Mark Hunt stuffs it. Both fighters appear to be breathing heavily. Mark Hunt lands a hard leg kick on Ben Rothwell. Mark Hunt lands a left hook and misses with an uppercut. Rothwell lands a soft jab but Mark Hunt lands a hard leg kick. Ben Rothwell lands a hard right hand, and Hunt answers with a right of his own. Rothwell shoots in for a takedown but Mark Hunt avoids it. Mark Hunt lands two hard punches and trip takedowns Ben Rothwell. Mark Hunt lands a hard right hand and follows it up with some hard hammer fists. Mark Hunter landing some very nice ground and pound. Mark Hunt mixing up some hard elbows with his ground and pound. Mark Hunt landing some short left hands and Ben Rothwell’s cut is getting worse. Mark Hunt is absolutely brutalizing Ben Rothwell against the fence. Mark Hunt lands a very hard right hand and transitions to side control. Mark Hunt landing some short hammer fists. Mark Hunt gets his knee on the belly and throws and lands some hard left hands. Ben Rothewell gives up his back and Mark Hunt lands some more strikes from behind. Mark Hunt transitions to side mount and lands some hammer fists. Mark Hunt tries to transition to an armbar but is unable to pull it off. 10-8 round for Mark Hunt.

Round 3:

Ben Rothwell appears to be badly hurt and the referee is asking Ben Rothwell if he is ready to start the round. Rothwell comes in and Mark Hunt lands a hard uppercut. Mark Hunt lands another hard uppercut. Ben Rothwell is wobbly and Mark Hunt almost lands a spinning elbow. Mark Hunt takes Ben Rothwell down and is in Ben Rothwells full guard. Mark Hunt lands a very hard hammer fist. The referee stands both of the fighters back to their feet. Ben Rothwell is coming forward and shoots in on Mark Hunt but misses. Mark Hunt lands another uppercut on Ben Rothwell. Rothwell shoots in for a takedown but misses, and Mark Hunt takes the back of Rothwell and lands some strikes on Rothwell. Mark Hunt lands a very hard straight right and uppercuts Ben Rothwell as he tries to take him down. Mark Hunt shoots in on a double leg takedown and easily takes him down. Mark Hunt begins to reign down some short right hands from half guard. Mark Hunt pins down the right hand of Ben Rothwell and lands some more right hands. Mark Hunt lands some more hammer fists. The referee stands both the fighters back up in a very questionable standup. Mark Hunt lands another hard uppercut and lands two hard hooks to the head of Rothwell. Mark Hunt lands a left kick to the head of Rothwell. Mark Hunt shoots in and Rothwell sprawls and tries to lock in a guillotine. Rothwell is bleeding profusely and in full mount as the round ends. Ben Rothwell is leaking blood all over the mat. 10-9 round for Mark Hunt.

Matt Hughes (45-8) vs. Josh Koscheck (15-5); Welterweight

Round 1:

Koscheck and Matt Hughes come out to the center of the octagon. Matt Hughes lands an early jab on Josh Koscheck. Matt Hughes lands another jab on Koscheck. Matt Hughes throws a quick left hook but misses. Matt Hughes lands an uppercut on Josh Koscheck. Koscheck comes forward and hits Hughes with a left hook. Koscheck lands a quick jab. Matt Hughes lands a jab while Koscheck looked outside the cage for a quick seconds. Matt Hughes lands a left hook and uppercut. Matt Hughes lands another hard jab and lands a quick uppercut. Koscheck lands a quick left hook. Hughes and Koscheck exchange uppercuts. Josh Koscheck shoots in on a takedown but Matt Hughes is able to keep the fight standing. Matt Hughes lands a hard right hook that staggers Matt Hughes, Koscheck lands a straight right hand, and two big right hands in a row. Matt Hughes lands a knee to Koscheck but falls to the ground. Joscheck lands some hard hammer fists and right hands. Koscheck lands more hammer fists and Matt Hughes is out. Those were some vicious hammer fists by Koscheck.

Jon Jones (13-1) vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (32-8); Light Heavyweight

Round 1:

The crowd is jacked for the main event. Jones comes out crouched real low, looks like the guy from bloodsport. Jones stays low and shoots in for a takedown. Jackson and Jones are clinched against the fence, with Jackson’s back against the fence. Jones lands some knees on Rampage against the fence. Rampage switches position and Jone Jones briefly grabs Jackson’s neck. Rampage lands a hard short left elbow on Jones. Jon Jones lands a foot stomp on Jackson. Fans are starting to boo, and the fighters finally separate. Jones has an obvious huge reach advantage on Jackson. Jones throws out two very quick kicks to the head of Jackson. Jones lands a hard inside leg kick on Jackson. Fighters clinch in the center of the ring, and Jones almost trips Jackson. Jackson comes forward with two wild punches but misses. Jones throws a head kick that is partially blocked by Jackson. Jones throwing some very hard kicks and lands a hard straight right. Jones lands another hard leg kick. Jackson partially lands a short left hook and clinches with Jackson. Jones landing some short knees on Jackson. Jones lands a beautiful spinning back elbow. Jones throws another high head kick and attempts a spinning wheel kick. Jackson ducks under an elbow and throws two hard hooks. 10-9 round for Jones in a very entertaining round.

Round 2:

Jackson comes out and takes the center of the octagon. Jones lands a leg kick, and Jackson comes charging forward with two left hooks and clinches with Jones. Jones spins Rampage against the fence and goes for another spinning elbow, and Jackson shoots in. Rampage misses with an uppercut. Jackson lands a leg kick to Jones. Jones lands a hard straight right, and Jackson nods his head in acknowledging it’s power. Jackson tags Jones with a leaping left hook. Jones throws another kick at the head of Jackson. Jones lands a short leg kick on Jackson, and the fighters quickly tie up. Jones lands another inside leg kick. Jones lands a hard outside leg kick. Jones lands another inside leg kick. Jones lands a side kick. Jones lands another side kick to the body of Jackson. Jones throws a high left leg kick. Jackson lands a quick jab. Jones throws two hard rights but marely misses. Jackson lands two short knees to the inside thight. Jones attempts to lock in a jumping triangle at the end of the round. 10-9 round for Jones.

Round 3:

Jackson throws a leg kick but briefly gets caught in a front choke. Jackson misses wildly with two hooks. Jackson misses with a lead left hook. Jackson lands an inside leg kick and throws two hooks to follow up. Jones misses with a jab. Jones lands an inside and outside leg kick. Jones shoots in on a takedown and easily takes down Jackson. Jones transitions into side control and quickly gets full mount on Jackson. Jones landing some short elbows on Jackson and plenty of time is left. Jones lands a hard left elbow and another punch. Jackson gets back to his feet and Jones lands two knees to the body. Jackson ducks under an elbow thrown by Jones. Jones lands a kick to the body and front kicks Jackson straight in the face. Jackson lands a short hook to the body of Jones. Jones lands a right straight left straight combination. Jones buckles Jackson with a front kick to his knee. Jackson wildly misses with two hooks. Jones lands an outside leg kick. Jones with a lead left hook and a straight right. Jackson lands a lead left hook. Jones comes in with a flying knee, and follows with a quick kick to the knee of Jackson. Jackson comes in with a lead left hook. Jones lands a quick straight right that causes Jackson to step back. Jones shoots in on Jackson at the end of the round, and stands up and drops Jackson after the round ends. 10-9 round for Jones.

Round 4:

Jackson gets hit with a lead left hook that hurts Jackson. Jackson ducks under a right hook by Jones and briefly clinches. Jones takes Jackson down and lands two short elbows. Jones lands a hard knee to the body of Jackson. Jones has the back of Jackson and gets in one hook. Jones gets both hooks in and locks in the rear naked choke, and Quinton Jackson is forced to tap out at 1:14. Jon Jones looks unstoppable, and it’s tough to see anyone challenging him in the near future.
