A report on eurosport.com says that world heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko has been hospitalized due to a kidney stone.
According to the report, Klitschko was flown by helicopter from his training camp in the Alps–where he is preparing for a December 10 title defense against French challenger Jean Marc Mormeck, to be held in Dusseldorf, Germany–to a hospital in nearby Innsbruck, Austria.
Klitschko apparently became ill Friday night with painful cramps.
Klitschko spokesman Bernd Boente explains, “We hope that the [kidney] stone is going to pass over the weekend, and we plan to continue as normal.”
Wladimir Klitschko recently seems to be jinxed as far as fights in December are concerned. One year ago, Klitschko was forced to postpone a fight with Dereck “Del Boy” Chisora of the UK when he tore a stomach muscle in training camp a few days before the event.
Klitschko never did fight Chisora, and later went on to defend his titles against David Haye.
