Spadafora to rumble with Jermain White on Sept. 30

PITTSBURGH (September 21, 2009) — Former IBF lightweight champion PAUL “The Pittsburgh Kid” SPADAFORA, who returns to the ring for the second time in three months, will face JERMAIN “Too Sweet” WHITE in a 10-round junior welterweight bout at Heinz Field-VIP Tent in Pittsburgh (100 Art Rooney Drive), the home of the Steelers. The Spadafora-White rumble will headline an all-action card, Wednesday, September 30. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m.

White (17-3, 10 KOs), of Gary, IN., returns to the ring having won three of his last four bouts, the last two by knockout, including Ruben Galavan, a seventh-round TKO victim. Spadafora went the 10-round distance against Galavan, the only common opponent White and Spadafora have on their professional resumes.

In his last fight, Spadafora (42-0-1, 17 KOs), of nearby McKees Rocks, Penn., served up a sixth-round TKO to Argentine strongman Ivan Bustos, on June 24, at the Amphitheatre in Station Square in a soldout Pittsburgh homecoming event. Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker, the four-division world champion and Hall of Fame inductee, is once again running “The Pittsburgh Kid’s training camp in Indiana.

The undercard will also feature undefeated Pittsburgh prospects, lightweight Rod Salka (8-0, 2 KOs), and heavyweight Paul Zalus (2-0, 2 KOs), against Ikem Orji (5-2, 1 KO) of Laurel, MD. and Ryan St. Germain (2-4, 2 KOs) of Elkhart, IN., respectively, as well as heavyweight Tommy Poe (1-0) of Neffs, Ohio, plus other bouts to be named soon.
