Lightweights Lundy & Williams on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights

Lightweights “Hammerin’” Hank Lundy (21-1-1, 11 KOs) and “Dangerous” Dannie Williams (21-1, 17 KOs) will meet in the 10-round main event on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra March 30. Friday’s co-feature will pit Hector “Macho” Camacho Jr. (53-4-1, 28 KOs), (son of former Super Featherweight and Lightweight titlist Hector “Macho” Camacho) against former middleweight title challenger Elvin “The Lycan” Ayala (24-5-1, 11 KOs). Friday’s show will air at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2 HD, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN3 from Mashantucket, CT. The card is presented by CES Promotions.

“We are thrilled to have this main event fight on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights series from the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods and appreciate the work both promotional camps demonstrated to make this fight a reality,” said Doug Loughrey, director, programming and acquisitions at ESPN. “Our loyal fans are most familiar with both fighters, who had tremendous knockouts in 2011 on Friday Night Fights, and hopefully the recent battle of words between these two fighters will transfer to the ring for an action-filled and entertaining night on March 30th.”

On ESPN2 HD and ESPN3, Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas will be ringside at the MGM Theater at Foxwoods describing the action, while studio host Bernardo Osuna will be on site presenting all the latest boxing news and highlights. On ESPN Deportes’ Viernes de Combates (Friday Night Fights), Pablo Viruega and Delvin Rodriguez will be ringside calling the fights with Leopoldo Gonzalez and Lindsay Casinelli in the studio.

ESPN2’s show presented a special feature on Hank Lundy last week (see video above) and this Friday will include a special feature on Dannie Williams. In addition, Friday’s show will also pay tribute to boxing writer and sports historian Bert Sugar, who passed away Sunday at the age of 75.

Main Event:
Philadelphia’s Lundy has won his last three fights, including a sixth–round knockout over former Lightweight titlist David Diaz last August on Friday Night Fights. Lundy said of Friday’s fight, “You can’t scare me. You can’t derail me, because I fight for a living. I’m going to hurt this boy (Williams). There’s an old saying that goes, ‘Your arms are too short to box with God.’ I’m not God, but in the ring I’m the closest thing to it… This guy (Williams) hasn’t fought anybody like Hammerin’ Hank. I’m going to do what I have to do to win the fight.”

Ohio’s Williams, trained by Jack Loew, the former trainer of ex-middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, has won his last nine fights. “This is probably the best camp I’ve been in training with any fighter,” Loew said. “He knows what’s on the line. I think the winner of this fight is going to make a lot of noise in that lightweight division, and it’s loaded.”

Atlas:
“Dannie Williams, not only has speed, but he has power. Lundy is going to have to outbox him, out work him, be smart and not make a mistake. He’s got to fight a disciplined fight. One thing that may work in favor of Lundy is that he has fought the better guys and that experience should help him.”
