Thursday, June 29, 2023 | Sony Hall, New York, NY
Broadcast: BoxingInsider.com (streamed live and free) / SNY (delayed, as Broadway Boxing)
Promoter: Larry Goldberg, Boxing Insider Promotions
Boxing Insider Promotions returned to Sony Hall with a five-fight card streamed live and free — “like boxing used to be,” as the promotion billed it. The evening delivered a dominant main event performance, a war between Long Island rivals, and a retirement announcement from one of Philly’s toughest veterans.
MAIN EVENT
Kurt Scoby (12-0, 10 KOs) def. Henry “Hammerin’ Hank” Lundy (31-14-1, 14 KOs)
Super Lightweight — 8 Rounds
Result: TKO Round 2 (1:54)
Scoby dominated from the opening bell, pushing the pace and pinning the veteran Lundy against the ropes with relentless pressure. The former collegiate football standout was simply too big, too strong, and too fast for the 39-year-old Philadelphian. In the second round, Scoby uncorked a three-punch combination that sent Lundy crashing to the canvas. Lundy, who had challenged Terence Crawford for a world title and shared the ring with Viktor Postol, Thomas Dulorme and John Molina Jr., beat the count — but moments later was back on the mat for good. “I’m here,” Scoby said simply after the fight. Lundy, to his immense credit, used the moment to announce his retirement. “17 years in the game, I ran and ducked from nobody,” he told the crowd. “I thank boxing for saving my life.”
CO-FEATURE
Brian Ceballo (15-1, 7 KOs) def. Mitch Louis-Charles (7-4-2, 4 KOs)
Super Welterweight — 8 Rounds
Result: Unanimous Decision (80-71, 79-72, 79-72)
Ceballo returned to Sony Hall and put on another polished performance, dominating the Canadian Louis-Charles over eight rounds. Ceballo scored a knockdown in the fifth and cruised the rest of the way, improving to 2-0 at the venue.
Matthew “Lefty Gunz” Gonzalez (13-0-1, 8 KOs) def. Terell “The Problem Child” Bostic (8-2, 1 KO)
Super Lightweight — 8 Rounds
Result: Unanimous Decision (78-74, 77-75, 77-75)
The neighborhood war delivered. Ridgewood’s Gonzalez and Wyandanch’s Bostic — both Long Islanders — went to battle for eight rounds in a fight that lived up to every bit of the pre-fight hype. Bostic, riding a five-fight win streak, brought the fight to the undefeated Gonzalez all night and made it competitive on every card. Gonzalez’s power and southpaw angles ultimately made the difference, but the margins were razor-thin. A fight of the night candidate.
Arnold Gonzalez (12-0, 7 KOs) def. Alejandro Munera (L)
Welterweight — 8 Rounds
Result: Unanimous Decision
Gonzalez kept his unbeaten record intact with a decision over Munera.
Raymond “The Scientist” Cuadrado (8-0, 4 KOs) def. Yeuri Andujar (5-6-1, 3 KOs)
Super Featherweight — 4 Rounds
Result: Unanimous Decision
Ridgewood’s Cuadrado stayed undefeated with a four-round decision over the Dominican Andujar to open the card.
