Listen Now:

HBO Must Force Pacquiao vs. Floyd

Posted on 11/16/2009

It’s time for potentially the biggest fight in boxing history. Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather. NOW. Not after Pac beats Mosley or Mayweather gets two more handpicked set ups. NOW. Make it now HBO. You have the power to make it happen. Don’t you?

We know Manny Pacquiao and Bob Arum will accept the fight at 50-50. But the troubling question is will Mayweather? HBO has inadvertantly spoiled the controversial boxer by giving him mega millions for safe, easy handpicked opponents for years, such as Baldomir, Marquez, Mitchell, Bruseles, etc. There is reasonable doubt by many that Mayweather will suddenly change his ways now and agree to accept an extremely dangerous opponent like Pacquiao who is more than capable of battering Mayweather just like he did Hatton, De La Hoya and Cotto in his last three fights.

But HBO has to be strong and overrule Mayweather if he tries to avoid Pacquiao. This is the fight everyone in the world wants to see NOW. It does not matter what Al Haymon says. It does not matter that Al Haymon is having a bad year and doesn’t want to see another of his meal tickets go down the drain like Jermain Taylor and Chris Arreola. All that matters is what boxing fans want now and they are clamoring to pay to see Pacquiao vs. Mayweather. This is a once in a decade fight.

Mayweather always says he loves HBO like family. So he trusts HBO like family. If this is true, Mayweather will trust HBO if they ask him to take 50-50 now. If Mayweather does not trust that fair offer, which could benefit him over $25-30 million when all is said and done, HBO you should tear up his contract, put him out on the street and let Showtime take him. They can have the fraud.

But let’s hope Floyd is not a fraud and will agree to fight Pacquiao next.

It’s up to HBO to make this fight happen. If this fight fails to happen, for whatever excuse or reason, put ALL the blame on HBO.
