Last Book Read: “A book about a boxer who had been great, then he was back to being extremely poor. Forget his name. It’s a Mexican book about a Mexican fighter. A real story. He became a shoe shiner. The writer got the story from the guy because he used to do his shoes. It’s a Cinderella story, but the other way around. The writer had a real hard time convincing him to tell the story.”

At that time I didn’t have a car. I used to take a bike ride to look for my trainer. Because they tried to take him away. I tried to convince him to continue. That was a hard time.”

Funny Boxing Memory: “I was running with my trainer. There was a man with Clemente. They call me Perro (dog). And the guy asked, What are you doing? Clemente said, I’m waiting for my dog to run 15 minutes, then 15 minutes back. And the guy was like, Wow. You’re a great trainer, like thinking, dog trainer. Then he finally told him, No, he’s a fighter. And the guy he couldn’t help it, he was busting out [smiles].”
