“Although there has been several rumors circulating thru media suggesting that I will have an upcoming fight, I’d like to set that record straight and state that there has been no deals made on my behalf in regards to a bout with any fighter at this time. I am happily retired and enjoying my life! Rest assured that if any changes come about, I will be the first to let the world know!”

Floyd Mayweather Work Out for the Press

And, with that Instagram post, Floyd Mayweather appears to have cleared the air regarding a potential matchup with UFC star Conor McGregor. “Appears” is, of course, the operative word here. The truth is that both Mayweather and McGregor love attention, so at this point it’s hard to know what end is up. And, frankly, both men are now taking attention from some very exciting and some very real boxing matchups (and surely some very exciting and very real UFC matchups, as well).

This is a good time for boxing. Solid fights are finally being made and fans are actually showing some contentedness after an exceedingly frustrating and oftentimes stagnant 2016. A Mayweather-McGregor circus, frankly, isn’t needed. Unfortunately, however, it is undoubtedly wanted in many quarters.
