Wladimir Klitschko makes his second comeback fight after his shocking upset loss to Corrie Sanders in March. He meets former American top prospect Danell Nicholson in a non-televised match from Kiel, Germany on December 20th.
Here’s the latest from Dr. Steelhammer:
BoxingInsider.com: How is Wladimir Klitschko?
Wladimir Klitschko: “I am right now in the middle of preparation. And I keep doing sparring here in New York. So next week I’ve got a fight.”
BoxingInsider.com: What strengths do you see in Danell Nicholson?
Wladimir Klitschko: “Very experienced fighter. He’s fast with his feet. And he is like Muhammad Ali style. A lot of movements. I think it will be not easy to fight against him. But, anyway, for me it doesn’t matter who is my opponent. I’m gonna fight and I go to win the fight.”
BoxingInsider.com: How have you adapted to your new home in Los Angeles, do you like it there?
Wladimir Klitschko: “It’s pretty good. LA is good for body. New York is good for mind [smiles]. It’s like I split my body and mind in different places [smiles]. Like I said, New York is a mind city. And L.A. is for body. It’s good to train because in the direct preparation, you never get cold. And so you just keep focused on training.”
BoxingInsider.com: Meet any famous people yet?
Wladimir Klitschko: “L.A. is the famous people city. For example, Denzel Washington - the Oscar winner - was in the La Brea gym. Muhammad Ali’s photographer Howard Bingham. So there’s a lot of famous people around.”
BoxingInsider.com: That’s one of the most beautiful and scenic big cities in America. Have you found a favorite part of the L.A. area yet?
Wladimir Klitschko: “I like Marina del Rey. I like Santa Monica. I don’t like Beverly Hills. I believe it’s more a tourist place.”
BoxingInsider.com: Were you impressed by your brother Vitali’s second-round KO win last week against Kirk Johnson?
Wladimir Klitschko: “I was SO impressed. He didn’t give Kirk Johnson any chance. And I think it was that my brother was so focused and so prepared and I’m proud of him actually. Because I think, to fight in Madison Square Garden - the main event - and to win the fight so impressive…right now, he don’t need the title. He’s a people’s champion, I believe, 100%. And Lennox Lewis…he can’t see a bad fight (Vitali vs. Johnson). He will want to retire than fight Vitali again.”
BoxingInsider.com: Vitali is fast becoming a big fan favorite throughout the world. Who is the better fighter right now?
Wladimir Klitschko: My brother is better than me. People are interested in him. Because his style is not very impressive but very effective. Because he’s very focused with our goal and our dream to be champion at the same time. So now he has his next fight - a world championship fight. So myself, first of all, I’m going to fight (December 20th) and then we can talk about my future.”
