Interview with Ricardo Mayorga

“God wants me to win!”

By Scoop Malinowski

At the very end of the press conference, Ricardo Mayorga answered our exclusive Boxinginsider.com questions:

Boxinginsider.com: Both fighters look so confident, I’m stumped on who will win. What is going to be the difference of this fight of who wins?

Ricardo Mayorga: “Pretty much I’m the man of the show. I’m the one that’s been selected to win on October 2nd. That’s what is gonna make the difference.”

Boxinginsider.com: Selected by who?

Ricardo Mayorga: “By God. I’m here because God wants me to be here. I’m gonna win because God wants me to win.”

Boxinginsider.com: Do you see it being a hard fight? Will you admit it could be a very difficult fight?

Ricardo Mayorga: “No. It’s going to be an easy fight I think.”

Boxinginsider.com: Are you surprised that he’s so confident? Tito seems very confident?

Ricardo Mayorga: “That isn’t confidence, that’s nerves.”

Note: Unfortunately I was not able to ask Trinidad about Mayorga’s assertion that God has already selected the Nicaraguan to win - because Tito had already exited the arena. That answer by Mayorga was curious in that he did not say he would win the fight because he was the better, stronger or more determined. You almost wonder if he is putting his hope and faith in God that he will come out victorious. And with Tito being the positive role model and fine sportsman that he is…well you know what I’m getting at.
