Boxinginsider was able to land this brief but interrupted interview with the now-famous heavyweight contender Sultan Ibragimov (thanks to translator Elena Lembesky) after the press conference brawl Wednedsay at Gallagher’s Steak House in New York City.

Boxinginsider: Are you one of the best heavyweights in the world right now?

Sultan Ibragimov: “I’m ready to do any fight and I have proved that I am one of the best.”

Boxinginsider: Why should heavyweight boxing fans pay attention to you, watch your rise? I know you’re an exciting athlete with a very fast and powerful straight left, but why should boxing fans who don’t know you watch you?

Sultan Ibragimov: “I try to change my strategy. Because other past champions they used this fight strategy and they try to find the different way to disappoint the opponent. (Not sure I understand?) Translator Elena says, “Because he try to find a different way, different kind of fight, different kind of strategy, that is why people should watch. Sportsman used to try different way, different strategy and so does Sultan.”

Boxinginsider: Why do you believe you are one of the best right now?

Sultan Ibragimov: “I’m ready to prove it. I feel myself I am one of the best. I’m ready to do any fight. And during that fight I’m ready to prove it. I am one of the best and probably the best. I feel my power.”

Boxinginsider: You have a lot of confidence. You have to have a reason to be so confident…

Sultan Ibragimov: “Before this fight I had a big, very, very tough training program and right now I feel that I’m ready technically, emotionally and physically to show a good fight.”

At this point the interview ended when a lawyer who was present at the press conference suggested it would be best for Ibragimov to leave the scene, considering that the police were present and were beginning to look at photographer’s digital pictures of the brawl.

We will have more with Ibragimov coming soon.
