While WBA#3 Junior Welterweight contender Dmitri Salita (28-0-1, 16 KO’s) awaits scheduling his next match, he took time out to share his boxing training program which including one unique sparring technique from back in the day which may surprise you…

BoxingInsider.com: Do you do long runs or sprints? If long runs or hills, how far and if you vary your roadwork why?

Dmitri Salita: I do both, I think both are important for your cardiovascular system. Long 6 mile runs are good to get in shape, keep your weight down, sprints and hills prepare you for energy bursts that you need during a fight.

BoxingInsider.com: How much sparring do you like to do before a 10-round fight?

Dmitri Salita: I always stay in the gym, I spar a few times a week leading up to the fight and make sure I get in a few complete 10 round sessions of sparring.

BoxingInsider.com: Do you lift weights and if so, what do you do?

Dmitri Salita: Yes I do, I feel that if it is done properly it can improve performance I do a lot of kettle ball training. I stop a few weeks before my fight.

BoxingInsider.com: Do you split your body parts up for example, chest and triceps, back and biceps, shoulders and legs etc.

Dmitri Salita: I don’t do weight lifting work outs, I do full body work outs that use lot of athletic movements.

BoxingInsider.com: Do you get added motivation training with a partner?

Dmitri Salita: No, I train well myself.

BoxingInsider.com: Do you skip workouts? Why or why not?

Dmitri Salita: I never skip workouts when I prepare for a match. Boxing is my life, and hard work gets the prize. My trainers have to slow me down, not to over train.

BoxingInsider.com: Do you have any unusual training methods?

Dmitri Salita: When I was younger Jimmy O (O’Pharrow) made me spar with two people at one time.

BoxingInsider.com: Have you ever observed any very eccentric or unorthodox training methods in all your days in the gym? Which you added to your regime?

Dmitri Salita: There are certain trainers that come to the gym and do different things that seem funny most of the time they don’t stick around for too long. I have been around world champions from a young age and see them do exercises or tricks that I try and pick up.

BoxingInsider.com: What type of punch bags do you like to use – double end, heavy bag, speedbag?

Dmitri Salita: They all serve a benefit.

BoxingInsider.com: How important is padwork in your preparation?

Dmitri Salita: It’s important, I use Orlando Carrasquillo to help me get sharp, he is one of the best in the business.

BoxingInsider.com: What’s the most rounds you ever sparred in one day? Aaron Pryor once sparred 35 rounds!

Dmitri Salita: I did about 20 rounds one day and I did 15 more then a few times.

BoxingInsider.com: What work do you do to strengthen your legs besides roadwork and skipping rope? Any cycling?

Dmitri Salita: I cycle once in while, I use weight exercises to help me with my legs and I pull a very heavy truck tire across the gym.
