Q&A Jack Loew: “We’re Gonna Stop Bernard Hopkins”

Team Pavlik has arrived to the scene of their next battle and once again this time, as usual, they are just exuding with quiet and subtle but unmistakably obvious ultra confidence. No trash talk, no need to try to attempt to intimidate. Just ready to rock and roll, counting the minutes to seek and destroy the next target – Bernard Hopkins. Kelly Pavlik’s lifelong trainer/coach Jack Loew shared his thoughts on this next assignment on October 18 in Atlantic City.

Boxinginsider: Tell us basically the state of Team Pavlik. How is Team Pavlik doing just days before meeting The Executioner?

Jack Loew: “Feels great. We’re in New York days before the fight. Weight’s great, we didn’t have to worry about that. No sauna suits. He feels strong as ever. So, I mean, we’re just waiting for Saturday night.”

Boxinginsider: Ready for anything Hopkins is gonna throw at you?

Jack Loew: “Is he ready for anything we’re gonna throw? That’s the whole thing. Everybody keeps talking about Bernard Hopkins being rough and dirty on the inside. Well. Listen. If he’s gonna hit us low, he’s gonna be tasting his nuts too. Listen. We’re a big, rough person on the inside too. Kelly’s a strong kid on the inside. If you watch the Calzaghe fight, you beat somebody like Bernard Hopkins by pushing them back. He started whining to the referee the last half of the fight, everything Joe Calzaghe did he whined to the referee.”

Boxinginsider: How up for this fight is Kelly? Compared to the others.

Jack Loew: “He’s fighting a legend. He’s fighting Bernard Hopkins. How do you not get up for Bernard Hopkins? I saw how hard he trained for a guy like Gary Lockett, he was so prepared for Gary Lockett. How do you not get prepared for Bernard Hopkins? Being motivated or prepared to fight Bernard Hopkins wasn’t even a question.”

Boxinginsider: Hopkins is saying if Kelly think’s he’s going to win the fight with the right hand he’s crazy. I’m sure you read that, right? Your response.

Jack Loew: “Yeah. We got two hands. We’re not going in there to just bomb with the right hands. We proved we could box with Jermain Taylor, we outboxed, we outhustled him in the last two rounds. I hope that’s what he thinks – we’re just gonna throw right hands.”

Boxinginsider: What do you see happening Saturday night? What do you see as the most likely result?

Jack Loew: “Knock out. We’re going to stop Bernard Hopkins.”

Boxinginsider: Really? That’s never been done is the history of boxing though.

Jack Loew: “I guess we’re gonna make history, huh [laughs].”
