HBO Boxing Round by Round Results: Canelo Impressive in Stoppage

HBO brings another star studded card to its viewers with a main event of Saul Alvarez against Kermit Cintron. Also on tonight’s card is a junior lightweight championship bout between Adrian Broner and Martin Rodriguez. A win by Alvarez should catapult him to a bigger payday against some of the top fighters in the junior middleweight or middleweight division. Broner looks to keep his undefeated record intact.

Adrien Broner (21-0) vs. Martin Rodriguez(34-2-1); Junior Lightweight Championship

Round 1:

Broner and Rodriguez come out to the center of the ring and Broner lands an early jab to the head and body. Broner stays active with his jab and lands a short check left hook. Broner flicks out a two punch combination down the pike of Rodriguez’s guard. Broner hits Rodriguez with an overhand right. Broner is the obviously quicker fighter and tags Rodriguez with a few more jabs. Broner hits Rodriguez with two quick left hooks to his temple and Rodriguez looks hurt. Rodriguez misses with a lunging hook. Broner gets hit with a jab from Rodriguez. Rodriguez hits Broner with an overhand right. Broner hits Rodriguez with a short uppercut. Broner hits Rodriguez with a jab as Rodriguez moves in. Broner is hitting Rodriguez at will. Rodriguez gets hit with two consecutive straight right hands as the round ends. 10-9 round for Broner.

Round 2:

Rodriguez misses with his slow jabs, and Broner counters with three jabs to Rodriguez’s nose. Rodriguez lands a few body shots by the ropes. Broner hits Rodriguez with a three punch combination upstairs. Broner hits Rodriguez with another check hook. Referee warns Broner for pushing Rodriguez’s head down. Rodriguez connects with some of his best punches of the fight near the ropes. Rodriguez bangs some hooks off the body of Broner. Broner hits Rodriguez with a perfectly times right uppercut. Rodriguez bangs at the guard of Broner. Rodriguez hits Broner with some more body shots. Rodriguez presses Broner against the ropes with some more body blows. Rodriguez eats three jabs from Broner towards the end of the round. Better round for Rodriguez, but he didn’t hit Broner with any solid shots. 10-9 round for Broner.

Round 3:

Broner hits Rodriguez with a straight right hand to open the round. Broner throws a hard hook to the body of Rodriguez. Broner lands a short uppercut to the chin of Rodriguez. Broner connects with another left hook. Rodriguez charges at Broner by the corner, and Rodriguez lands multiple body shots on Broner by the corner. Broner lands a hard right uppercut on Rodriguez by the corner and has him hurt. Broner unleashes a flurry of punches on Rodriguez by the corner and knocks Rodriguez down with a left hook. The crowd roars in approval and Rodriguez is unable to get to his feet as the referee counts to ten.

Adrien Broner wins by KO at 1:43 of round 3.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (38-0-1) vs. Kermit Cintron (33-4-1); Light Middleweight Championship

Round 1:

Alvarez eats an early jab from Cintron. Cintron misses with a jab and a hook to the body. Cintron lands another jab. Crowd starts chanting “Canelo, Canelo”. Alvarez slips a jab from Cintron. Canelo misses with a left hook, but lands a short jab. Canelo lands a nice left hook to the temple of CIntron. Cintron throws out a double jab. Canelo lands a hook to the body and temple of CIntron. Cintron lands a straight right to the body of Canelo. Canelo lands a hard straight right hand that snaps the head of Cintron. Canelo lands two body shots on Cintron. Cintron bangs a right cross at Canelo’s guard. 10-9 round for Canelo.

Round 2:

Canelo slips a jab from Cintron. Cintron with a right cross to the body of Canelo. Crowd starts chanting for Canelo. Canelo partially connects with a right cross. Canelo with three shots to the body of Cintron. CIntron tries to back Canelo up with his jab but Canelo blocks them. Canelo lands a right hook to the body of Cintron. Canelo’s lead left hook is partially blocked by Cintron. Canelo with a digging right hook to the body of Cintron. Cintron connects with a straight right hand. Canelo and Cintron barely miss with an exchange of combinations. 10-9 round for Canelo.

Round 3:

Cintron misses with a double jab. Cintron misses with another double jab, but lands a right hook to the body. Cintron barely misses with a right cross, and a counter cross from Canelo misses. Cintron eats a right hook from Canelo. Canelo with another jab cross combination from Cintron. Body head hook combination from Canelo. Another straight hand fro Canelo. A lead left hook from Canelo is partially blocked. Canelo ducks two more jabs from CIntron, and connects with a counter right. Cintron connects with a left hook, and Canelo counters with a combination. 10-9 for Canelo.

Round 4:

Cintron throws a jab to the body of Canelo. Canelo with a lead left hook on Cintron. Cintron connects with a straight right hand to the body of Canelo. Canelo hits Cintron with a straight right hand to the body of Cintron. Canelo unleashes with a combination in the center of the ring, and does some good body work on Cintron. Canelo lands another hard left hook to the body of Cintron. Canelo with a three punch combination to the head of Cintron. Two overhand rights from Canelo knocks Cintron to the mat and the referee begins his count. Cintron is able to get up,but is still hurt from the combination from Canelo. Cintron has trouble defending himself when Canelo comes back out and unleashes punches. Cintron slips to the mat and the referee rules it is not a knockdown. Canelo comes back out to the center of the ring and barely misses with a two punch combination. Cintron uses his jab to stay out of trouble as the round ends, but Cintron is hurt and has to use the ropes to keep himself up. Cintron looks like he may not be coming out of round five as he has blood coming out of his nose and he is breathing very heavily. 10-8 round for Canelo.

Round 5:

Cintron looks to still be hurt from the last round. Cintron throws out a weak straight right hand. Canelo connects with a lead left uppercut and a straight right hand. Cintron throws a hard combination but eats a hard right hand from Canelo. Cintron looks to be unbalances and eats another sweeping left hook from Canelo. Cintron connects with a hard straight right hand on Canelo. Canelo connects with another straight right hand and a right hook to the body. Cintron throws out three short jabs by the ropes. Cintron and Canelo connects with a right cross near the same time. Canelo digs in on CIntron with some power shots. Cintron tags Canelo with a straight right hand. Cintron flicks out two jabs towards Canelo. Canelo has CIntron by the ropes and throws out a two punch combination and hurts Cintron with a straight right hand. The straight right hand sends Cintron keeling over and the referee stops the fight. Impressive showing from Canelo.

Canelo Alvarez wins by TKO at 2:53 of round five.

After the fight Canelo called out Floyd Mayweather and said he wants to fight the best pound for pound fighter in the world.
