Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0) and Marcos Maidana (35-4) met tonight in a rematch in a closer than expected fight from Mayof this year. The undercard yielded some surprising results, but the crowd was quiet and listless until the main event began.

The Mexican national anthem was sung first by Julio Lopez. The Argentinian national anthem was played on some type of recorder, and then later sung by Jorge Rojas. The United States national anthem was sung by Monica.

Marcos Maidana walked into the ring first and was accompanied by what appeared to be a mariachi band. Floyd Mayweather Jr. came out a second and surprisingly was not accompanied by Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, or any celebrity.

The following is a round by round recap of tonight’s main event. The crowd was singing loudly and boisterously during the referee introductions.

Rd 1:

Maidana does look a little softer than usual. They don’t even touch gloves, but Mayweather lands an early jab. Mayweather connects with two more jabs. Mayweather misses with a lead left hook. Mayweather easily moves out of the way of a wild hook from Maidana. Mayweather lands another good jab. Floyd looks light on his feet early on. Maidana lands a right hook over the top on Mayweather. Mayweather slips and falls to the mat. Mayweather is moving from side to side and is staying away from Maidana. The crowd is booing Maidana’s movement. Mayweather with a jab to the body and a lead left hook. Maidana lands a left hook to the body of Mayweather. Mayweather lands another lead left hook. Mayweather ties up with Maidana. Mayweather with another jab to the body.

Mayweather is bouncing on his toes and circling on the outside. Mayweather barely misses with a left hook and Maidana answers with a two punch combination. Maidana is pressing the pace and maintaining a tight defensive posture. Mayweather with a jab to the body. Maidana lands two hooks to the body. Maidana misses with a right cross. Maidana is unable to trap Mayweather by the ropes or the corner. Maidana lands a jab and Mayweather answers with a jab of his own. The referee is very quick with breaking up the fighters. The crowd is chanting loudly and Mayweather connects with a good right hand. Mayweather connects with a check left hook. Mayweather barely misses with a right cross. Mayweather with another lead left hook and then a lead right hand.

Mayweather is again showing a lot of side to side movement. Mayweather lands another lead left hook and is looking comfortable. Maidana has Mayweather by the corner but misses most of his punches. Mayweather is looking very confident in the ring. Mayweather lands a counter right uppercut. Mayweather lands another good counter right cross, but Maidana is able to touch Mayweather with a right hand. Mayweather with a beautiful lead right cross. Mayweather with a perfect counter right hand and then a clean jab. Mayweather holds onto Maidana as soon as he gets in close. Maidana with two hooks to the body but Mayweather moves out of the way. Mayweather with another perfectly landed straight right hand. Maidana lands a good jab, but Mayweather answers with a straight right hand. Mayweather with a jab. Maidana lands a good straight right hand right at the end of the round.

Rd 4:

Mayweather comes right to the center of the ring at the start of the fourth round. Maidana barely misses with a jab. Maidana is pressing the pace and coming forward. Maidana with several wild punches but the referee seperates them right away. Maidana lands some good shots on Mayweather by the ropes. The crowd is starting to get loud. Maidana is landing good punches on Mayweather by the ropes to the body and head. Maidana is pressing forward with jabs and crosses to the body. Mayweather is taking some heavy body shots. Maidana’s jab is accurate and he lands some over the top right hands. Maidana is landing some good body shots. The referee is way too quick to break up the boxers. Mayweather with two jabs to the body of Maidana and then lands a hard right hand. Good right uppercut to the body by Mayweather. Mayweather sneaks in a right behind the guard of Maidana. Maidana is throwing punches from strange angles but Mayweather lands a good right uppercut.

Mayweather comes right out at Maidana but Maidana gets him backing up with his jab. Maidana lands a check left hook on Mayweather and then a clean jab. Maidana’s jab is much more effective this fight than in his last. Mayweather lands a good straight right hand behind a short jab. Maidana connects with a right hand and then misses with a lead left hook. Mayweather with a quick straight right hand. Maidana with a jab to the body of Mayweather. Mayweather misses with a wild right hand. Maidana with a good counter over the top right hand and two hooks to the body. Mayweather is able to spin out of danger from the corner. Maidana with a good hook to the body and Mayweather with a jab to the face.

Maidana gets tagged by a jab to the body form Mayweather. Mayweather lands a good lead left hook. Maidana is chasing Mayweather around the ring and the crowd whistles at the action in the ring. Maidana lands a lead right to the head of Mayweather. Maidana lands an over the top right hand and pushes Mayweather back with a double jab. Maidana lands a lead left hook and Mayweather clinches. Mayweather with a good counter right uppercut. Mayweather moves out of the way of a combination from Maidana. Maidana eats a check left hook. Mayweather with a good two punch combo but Maidana answers with two short hooks. Maidana lands another looping right hook at the end of the round.

Maidana throws out an early jab to the body of Mayweather. Mayweather is keeping a good distance from Maidana early in the seventh round and is landing clean punches. Maidana lands two good punches on Mayweather by the corner. Mayweather with two jabs. Maidana is chasing Mayweather around the ring but misses with wild hooks. Maidana takes a deep breath after missing several shots. Mayweather misses with a straight right hand. Maidana lands some decent body punches but Mayweather lands a hard body punch. Mayweather connects with two more good shots to the body. Mayweather with a short right uppercut to the body. Mayweather punches Maidana with a lead left hook as the round ends.

Maidana backs up Mayweather to the ropes but Mayweather holds on as soon as Maidana throws. Mayweather hits Maidana with two jabs to the body. Mayweather is making it very difficult for Maidana to trap him by the corner or ropes. Mayweather with a quick jab to the face of Maidana. Maidana with a looping clubbing right hand. The referee is quick to break it up when they get in tight. The referee seperates the fighters as soon as their bodies touch. Mayweather with a good right hook and spins and lands two good punches that may have hurt Maidana. Maidana lands a very hard over hand right on Mayweather, but Mayweather takes the punch well. Maidana lands a left hook but Mayweather comes back with a lead left hand. Mayweather is claiming that Maidana bit him. The crowd is loudly booing and whistling at Mayweather’s complaining about being bit on his glove. The fight finally restarts. Mayweather lands a counter left hook.

The replay does show that Maidana did bite Mayweather’s glove when Mayweather put his glove in Maidana’s mouth. Mayweather moving side to side again with a high guard. The referee is way too quick with breaking them up. Mayweather ties up with Maidana after he throws two punches. Maidana with a short left hook but Mayweather ties up. Mayweather ties up but Maidana has one hand free, and the referee breaks them up. Mayweather hits Maidana with a check left hook. The referee warns Mayweather to watch the elbows. Mayweather with another check left hook. Mayweather rolls with the punches well by the ropes. Mayweather is in clear control of the fight. Maidana goes into the wrong corner at the end of the round.

Mayweather easily avoids a right cross from Maidana. Maidana throws out several jabs but does not connect. Maidana gets backed up from a left hook by Mayweather. Mayweather lands a good jab. Mayweather lands two lead left hooks. Maidana lands a right hand over the top but Mayweather skates out of danger’s way. Mayweather punches Maidana with two left hooks. Maidana elbows Mayweather and pushes him to the mat. The referee takes away a point from Maidana. Maidana is chasing Mayweather around the ring again. The referee breaks them up as soon as they get in tight again. Mayweather lands a lead straight right. Mayweather gets backed into a corner and Maidana does land an over the top right hand.

Maidana needs a knockout to win. Mayweather flicks out a quick jab in the face of Maidana. Maidana misses with a wild right hand. Maidana is chasing Mayweather around the ring again but eats a hard left uppercut to his body. Mayweather lands another left hook to the body, but the referee rules it was a low blow. Maidana takes a breather from the apparent low blow. Mayweather with another left hook to the body of Maidana. Maidana barely misses with two wild hooks. Maidana backs Mayweather up to the corner and gets warned for using his elbows. Mayweather lands a very hard straight right to the side of Maidana’s head. Mayweather with two hooks to the body . Maidana looks very frustrated inside the ring.

Mayweather is circling around the ring for the first thirty seconds of the round and the crowd is booing very loudly. Mayweather throws out a lead left hook and connects. Maidana is very frustrated and the crowd is booing again. Mayweather is bouncing on the outside and avoiding any type of engagement with Maidana. Maidana comes in aggressively on Mayweather by ropes but Mayweather holds on. Maidana lands a good right hook to Mayweather’s body. The crowd is loudly whistling Mayweather’s lack of engagement in the ring. Maidana almost corners Mayweather, but he eventually circles his way outside of trouble.
