Boxing superstar Floyd “Money” Mayweather, 34, was sentenced to serve three months in a Las Vegas jail today as part of a plea bargain in the legal case involving an altercation with the mother of two of his children.

As seen in a clip on TMZ.com, Judge Melissa Saragosa castigated Mayweather for engaging in the fight with his ex-girlfriend in front of their children. The judge said she was troubled at the “extent that this happened in front of children old enough to know what’s happening.”

Saragosa also ordered Mayweather to complete 100 hours of community service and to pay a $2,500 fine. Mayweather is to start serving his jail sentence on January 6, 2012.

According to the Associated Press, Karen Winckler, Money Mayweather’s lawyer, may appeal the sentence handed down to the boxer, calling it “unusual.”

Judge Saragosa may have been influenced by the presentation of Prosecutor Lisa Luzaich, who told her that Mayweather “just continually gets himself into trouble and he is able to get himself out … because he is who he is and is able to get away with everything … The only thing that’s going to get this man’s attention is incarceration.”

Mayweather had floated a possible May 5 date for a fight with rival Manny Pacquiao, but that plan may now be in jeopardy if “Money” serves his full sentence. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum told the Los Angeles Times that he is more comfortable with a June meeting for the two fighters.
