British super middleweight Jonjo Finnegan suffered a devastating knockout loss to Ryan Clark last night that left him hospitalized in intensive care.
Finnegan was operated on to relieve bleeding in the brain. He is now on a ventilator and is in stable condition.
The bout held in Staffordshire, England was for the International Masters super-middleweight title. It was a rematch of an April fight in which Finnegan was also stopped by Clark.
There had been plenty of trash talk between the two boxers leading up to the rematch, and a shaken Clark was remorseful after the fight.
“Wish I’d never fought now. He’s a top lad — it was banter to make a great fight. We even chatted last night over private message — sorry mate,” a shaken Clark wrote on his Twitter account.
“I hate myself so much right now — wish I could turn back time and just give him my belt.”
