Why Floyd-Pacquiao Won’t Happen: The Smoking Gun
- October 30th, 2011

The conspiracy to protect Floyd Mayweather from losing the biggest fight in boxing history to Manny Pacquiao is in full swing right now. The way I see it, Al Haymon and Richard Schaefer know that Floyd Mayweather is afraid to take the fight.
They know Floyd Mayweather was protected from Miguel Cotto in 2008 and Antonio Margarito in 2006 and now they know the artificial champ Floyd Mayweather must be protected from Manny Pacquiao again in 2012, like he was in 2010 and 2011.
Whether the Mayweather-Ortiz pay-per-view numbers totaled 1.25 million or 650,000, it really doesn’t matter. Pacquiao vs. Mayweather will total upwards of 3 perhaps 4 million PPV buys. It is the ultimate fight in boxing history, probably even bigger than Ali vs. Frazier 1 in 1971 because Pacquiao vs. Mayweather has a natural good vs. evil angle, which Ali and Frazier did not.
Now is the time when discussions and negotiations should be taking place, to produce the biggest event in the history of the sport, for early 2012. Floyd is 34, Pacquiao is 32. Bob Arum is open and ready to talk but the problem is he knows Schaefer and Haymon do not want to talk. Because they do not want to sacrifice their product of Mayweather. Mayweather is all they have.
Schaefer, curiously, does not talk about making or trying to make Pacquiao vs. Mayweather at all. The last public comment Schaefer made about the fight, to my recall, was in the early part of this year when he stated that now “is not the right time to make the fight.” Schaefer did not or has never estimated exactly when he thinks the fight should be made, because, of course, he knows Mayweather doesn’t truly want the fight.
If Mayweather truly wanted the fight, rather than pretending and masquerading a desire to box Pacquiao, wouldn’t there be discussions and talks going on right now between Schaefer, Haymon with Arum and HBO? Of course there would. But Haymon and Schaefer obviously do not want the fight and will not even fake negotiations like they did the last time with Ross Greenburg. Haymon and Schaefer want another series of handpicked, easy money, set-ups for Floyd, not to send him to an executioner.
Arum expressed his desire last week at Manny’s Wildcard Gym workout to make the fight of Pacquiao vs. Mayweather. But Schaefer, Haymon didn’t answer the cue. Or try to see if Arum was bluffing (he’s not).
Nor did Mayweather, who has been in virtual hiding, now that Pacquiao is the prime time topic of discussion in the sport as we head to his next title defense against Juan Manuel Marquez in mid-November. Mayweather typically goes into hiding, needs a vacation or stages a fake retirement when it comes time for him to fight dangerous, threatening opponents he doesn’t want to fight.
You would think HBO might call Arum, Schaefer and Haymon to get together or to do a conference call to start talks but my theory is that everyone at the HBO Avenue of Americas office is well aware and 100% knows Mayweather is scared to take the fight and so consequently, HBO doesn’t even bother to try to round up Haymon, Schaefer and Arum because it would just be a waste of energy and an exercise of futility.
If you can’t accept that Mayweather is a coward and is afraid of Manny Pacquiao, please answer this question for me: Why aren’t Haymon and Schaefer trying to negotiate with Bob Arum and HBO right now?
Because Haymon and Schaefer will not come to the table, Arum has to make alternative plans and this is why Tim Bradley is being lined up for Pacquiao.
