Steward Impressed by Haye’s Right Hand, Arrogance & Burning Desire

It’s an undisputed fact that David Haye was nothing short of spectacular with his five-round KO win over Monte Barrett. So what does Emanuel Steward, trainer of IBF/WBO Heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko think about The Hayemaker?

“It will make an exciting fight because all of the unification fights (with Chagaev or Valuev) are all technical real B fighters. Against Valuev of Chagaev, it’s gonna be a chess match. It might be unification but it doesn’t mean excitement. I think Haye, not that he fights different, he has that explosive one punch power. That nobody else has. That makes him a little bit more dramatic because he can knock you out. But the rest, all of them are just technical fighters.”

Do you believe Haye is the most dangerous threat to Wladimir? “Yeah, he’s got speed. And he has a burning desire to win. He comes out with an arrogance and a willingness to let his right hand go. While the rest of the guys are all going to be conservative, laid back. And they can’t beat Wladimir with that style. Wladimir is too big and too technical.”

Like Haye, Wladimir Klitschko also dominated Barrett eight years ago, busting up and bloodying the New Yorker over seven totally one-sided rounds on the undercard of Lennox Lewis vs. Francois Botha. Like Haye, Klitschko floored Barrett five times.

The stage is almost set for Klitschko vs. Haye for 2009, provided Klitschko gets by Hasim Rahman next month and a mandatory IBF defense against Alexander Povetkin.
