Regardless of Verdict, Mayweather and His “Homies” Are a Neighborhood Problem

The four-rounder is over for Floyd Mayweather.

Upcoming: a series of ten-rounders that could really put him in the jackpot.

Mayweather’s misdemeanor harassment charge against two homeowner’s association security guards, which was dismissed a couple of days ago, was completely based on the boxer’s status as a celebrity. So says his attorney.

“Any other case would have resolved with an offer of an apology and a handshake,” said Richard Wright.

But was it, at the time?

Mayweather could have offered the handshake right then and there. Instead, what he did was turn into a thug and a bully.

According to an Associated Press story, “Parking for Mayweather’s 29 cars has been a frequent source of friction in the gated and patrolled community is about 10 miles south of the Las Vegas Strip.”

Yeah, I bet it is.

Mayweather’s home is apparently worth about $9.5 million. His is not the only expensive house in the neighborhood. In other words, he is not the only guy who could claim the nickname “Money.” So what the hell gives him the right to litter the street with 29 cars? And don’t fellow residents of this exclusive area, who have spent the money to be shielded from such things, have to worry about a bunch of “homies” who are carrying guns, as he intimated on the night in question?

Those security guards may have overreacted a little, but they are not there to be part of Mayweather’s “posse.” And you can bet your ass that Mayweather has been a consistent problem in that neighborhood, or else everybody would have been giving him the benefit of the doubt from the beginning. The two security guards Mayweather allegedly threatened – Miguel Burgos and Aaron Ryan, said they were “pressured” by their supervisors to pursue charges.

Doesn’t that tell you something about the way people in that area feel about him?

There is a homeowner’s association. They establish rules for procedure and conduct. Mayweather doesn’t follow them. maybe he doesn’t know them. He’s got a lot of sycophants. Why doesn’t he just send one of them to the meetings?

He doesn’t, I guess. In January, the Southern Highlands homeowners association sought an injunction in district court in an effort to force Mayweather to cooperate with their rules. In the action, he was accused of “repeatedly engaged in hostile, harassing and threatening behavior toward and against certain employees and security personnel employees…including but not limited to, threatening the life of a patrol officer, physically accosting a security officer, refusing to provide identity to gate officers.”

What that means, folks, is that this incident wasn’t isolated, and that he has been a constant pain in the ass; a scourge in what would otherwise be a quiet neighborhood.

The security guards did not really want to be testifying in a court trial, and that’s where this ultimately had to go, since prosecutors would not drop the matter. Some people have misinterpreted that to mean that the incident was not a big deal. such is not the case. The security guards, who would like to hold onto their jobs, where almost sure they were going to face retaliation for doing what they did.

I don’t blame them one bit, with a bunch of “homies” (Mayweather’s words) running loose around a neighborhood with pistols and God knows what else.

Other charges are looming for Mayweather, including coercion, grand larceny and robbery, as well as misdemeanor domestic battery and harassment. And hell, that’s just from one incident with an ex-girlfriend. His docket is full, so to speak. And the potential is 34 years in prison.

That would give him a lot of time to talk about “money” and his “homies” to bunch of guys who will resent him for it every step of the way. And with time off for good behavior, he’ll be about the same age as Dewey Bozella when he gets out. So there will still be some hope of that “comeback.”

Now all he has to do is find some “good behavior” somewhere.
