Vitali Hints Lewis is Considering Return
There as no US TV so this report, though only based on some video replays and some post-fight comments from Setanta Sports, is fragmented, but better than nothing. David Haye weighs in at 215 and looks spectacular. His confidence is supreme and it will be interesting to see how the ultra-confident Wladimir Klitschko handles that, especially if they fight in a sure to be wildly-hyped London next year.
Monte is in super condition himself. Just one year ago he told me he was going down to cruiser after the loss to Cliff Couser but those plans obviously changed, Two Gunz won three fights in a row, and he finds himself in London to take on the Hayemaker. Barrett barrels to the ring but bumbles over the top rope and falls flat on his can, from the hip-side. How embarrassing is that? Carl Lewis and his awful rendition of the national anthem at a NJ Nets basketball game has company now. Haye enters the ring and while waiting in his corner, does that Johnny Ruiz pace back and forth, while glaring at his rival. Ruiz would always look menacing doing that but once the bell rang, he’d barely do some fighting mixed in with a whole lot of mugging. Haye is a different animal than Ruiz though.
Thank the boxing gods for that, the sport has waited a long time for someone to come along and challenge the world dominant Klitschko Brothers. David Haye is here and he has the speed, flash, power, bravado and self-belief to make things very interesting. He is an electrifying performer. Haye smashed Barrett with several knockdowns, he shows to all he is in another league than Monte. Monte gave it his best effort but supernatural speed with power slayed him.
“We have seen the arrival of a very, very dangerous heavyweight,” said former Featherweight champ Barry McGuigan.
Vitali Klitschko said he would fight Haye next year but also curiously added that he “heard Lennox Lewis might be interested in making a comeback.” WHOA. Vitali said if Lewis decided to return to the ring at age 44, he will fight his former conquerer. And leave Haye for his younger brother to battle next summer.
After viewing a complete version of the fight, will post another report of Haye’s magnificent triumph in London, stay tuned…
