Artist LeRoy Neiman Observes, Comments on Jones & Calzaghe

World-renowned artist LeRoy Neiman was present at the Roy Jones and Joe Calzaghe media workouts at Kingsway Gym in New York City yesterday and made the following observations.

About Joe’s workout: “I like the way he moves. He is so fast. Great footwork. He’s very well coordinated, he has a lot of moves, he’s a great fighter. But Roy has experience. It will be a great fight.”

About Roy’s demeanor: “He’s very confident, over-confident. He’s very cocky. That could be good or bad. But this guy (Joe) is bigger than he is. But the guy’s faster than John Ruiz. John Ruiz is a palooka. This guy’s no palooka.”

On Joe’s demeanor: “I like his attitude. He’s very easy going. He won’t be heartbroken if he loses.”

On Roy’s confidence: “He’s really, for some reason, he has a high impression of himself now. He should be worried. He’s old.”

Final comments: “They don’t dislike each other. They’re both going to make a lot of money. God, (Joe’s) fast, phew. His punches come from many directions. I don’t like those that have a certain style and don’t vary. Joe Louis could do it.”

LeRoy Neiman, who recently attended the Ryder Cup as the official artist of the event will be seated ringside on Saturday night in Madison Square Garden. He will also be at De La Hoya-Pacquiao in Las Vegas in December.
