Arguelles Responds To Marley: Low Blows or Flagrant Foul?

January 25th, 2010

I went to the Pacquiao-Clottey presser and I indeed met the White Gorilla (Michael Marley) who was out of his Manhattan zoo cage at the WAMU Theatre at the Madison Square Garden last Wednesday. He is a friendly ape and was observant to people who look like a Filipino.

Once he noticed me, a Filipino photographer, the GMA crew and ABS-CBN press was waiting for the door to open at the corner of Eighth Ave. and 33rd St., the White Gorilla said hello to us.
When the door finally opened for us to get inside, he asked me the chances of Manny Pacquiao in the coming Philippine election. I replied that Pacquiaio has a pretty good chance this time.
I sensed that the White Gorilla was unconvinced, so I explained further the reason why Manny will finally win a seat in the Philippine Congress this year (I’m from Davao City a three hour ride to General Santos so I should know some local politics in Southern Mindanao).

I compared that the first time Manny ran against Congresswoman Darlene Custudio, its like running against a Kennedy in Massachuchetts. Then the Ape understand when I constructed the comparison, since he is a proud New England son. I don’t know why the White Gorilla didn’t ask Madame Auring about Pacquaio chances this year.

Once inside the WAMU Theatre, the White Gorilla settled in a “lowlife seating area” while waiting for the press conference to start, though I noticed he kept on looking for something, at the right, on the left, over his back. All that head-turning makes me notice the Gorilla is uneasy. Then he took some freshly brewed coffee at the table but it seems the Ape was still looking for somebody.
It seems that maybe the White Gorilla is checking if there was a Teddy Atlas in the house.

Once the Gorilla knew that there was no Atlas in the house, he was in a highlife attitude (not lowlife anymore) and jumped to every corner of WAMU Theatre to get information and quotes from Bob Arum, Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey.

I myself wanted to get some answers from Teddy Atlas and Tim Smith for Philippine News Services and as a contributor to BoxingInsider.com about the challenge from Manny Pacquiao in his Kumbinasyon Column, “Innocent Until Proven Guilty”, to expose the facts of their source.

Marley, in his last article “Wrong Targets: Stop Shooting Smith and Atlas for Mayweathers Lies”, suddenly came to the rescue for these two noted individuals and cited my article “Tim Smith Ducked Pacquiao-Clottey Press Confence” as a “low blow” and cries that I commit a flagrant foul to Tim Smith by exposing that the well known writer of New York Daily News didn’t come to welcome Manny Pacquiao in his home turf New York City.

I don’t know the rational point of the writer known as the White Gorilla. In fact I don’t want to criticize a writer in his objectivity but I need to answer the White Ape because suddenly the Gorilla went back to his monkey mentality.

I need to remind the White Gorilla that we are still humans, with equal opportunity even in the world of gathering FACTS and NEWS. I have the responsibility to get the right facts for my news for the Filipino people.

If Marley insists that we are in his Ape World or Planet of the Apes of make believe like his, like the 1968 film “Planet of the Apes” or 1981 movie about an Ape World somewhere in Alpha Centauri Delta in the universe identical to earth’s athmosphere and air quality (not with Avatar the movie in Pandora’s Planet where the air is toxic).

Michael Marley must be reminded that he is on earth, he should be back to his senses rather than living in the world of make believe in the Ape World, acting and minding other pinoy reporters motive of delivering a news and comment/opinion.

The so-called White Gorilla in his Ape World mindset even warned himself in the beginning of his article that he will not win friends in Pacland on what he is about to write. You will never find a Gorilla that is white in our planet (though there are gossips of white gorillas in a far away forest, nothing has been proven). There is white monkey and white bear but not white gorilla. However, there is a White Gorilla living near the forest of Central Park, New York City, his name is Michael Marley.

My response to Marley is if a pinoy reporter want answers and facts about so much disrespect given to our countrymen here in America (Manny Pacquiao), is it a “low blow?”
Like Bernabe Concepcion punch to Steven Luevano? Is it a low blow? Did I commit a flagrant foul like that of Rodman or Artest in the NBA? (Jaworski, Jarencio and Distrito in PBA).
Did Manny Pacquiao commit a low blow when he also challenged both Atlas and Smith to show some proof and facts?

How about your fellow Examiners? Why didn’t you call some of their articles “low blows” when they wrote demanding to show real facts? Why does it have to be a pinoy reporter that you chose to call a low blow and cry flagrant foul? When Atlas called you a “lowlife”, a blogger, in Boxingtalk.com interview, did you cry low blow?

Instead, you said in the D Source interview with Dennis Guillermo, “I like the guy, I have nothing against Teddy Atlas, he is a son of a doctor.” How about a son of a vegetable farmer in General Santos City? The son of a vegetable farmer needs some facts. Did Tim Smith disregard the son of a vegetable farmer in the Philippines by not showing up in the press conference?
You never call a low blow to Teddy Atlas calling you a LOWLIFE!

But, if a pinoy reporter asked for the facts about a source, it’s a low blow and a flagrant foul?

You also mentioned about writers who are Pacquiao advocates, can you blame all the Filipino writers if they want to seek for some answers why our very own is castigated by few media people who works in a big media outlets in United States like the Daily News in New York City and ESPN as a cheater, besides the assault of Golden Boy and Mayweather Camp on our real hero of the Philippines?

We are talking of a real hero to 98,000,000 Filipinos, not any fantastic hero of America like Captain Barbel or Captain America. Are you saying that Filipinos should stop clamoring for answers? And just let it go, forget about it, “can we just get along” as you said in your article. Get along? So you want Manny to drop the lawsuit so everybody can get along, while Mayweather camp and Golden Boy will continue to accuse Manny with allegations and suspicions of cheating?

You also campaign in your article “Wrong Targets” that it’s past time to stop labeling undefeated multi-time world champion and “extraordinary” amateur boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. a “coward.”
Then in your article yesterday “Mayweather Balks at Mosley”, you wrote that you have a source inside Mayweather camp that Mayweather is balking on fighting Shane Mosley. And you want to stop all the boxing writers and readers all over the world to stop calling Floyd Jr. a “coward?”

You are inconsistent in your articles Mr. Ape, at least Cheetah the sidekick of Tarzan is always consistent on his loyalty to Tarzan. When you question Floyd’s manhood like your “Kentucky Floyd Chicken,” you didn’t mean it and you are only joking? (jocular way.) Let me tell you something: Most of the writers and readers in Pacland – and even your co-Examiner.com writers – they are dead serious when they are calling Floyd Jr. a COWARD!

Then you want the likes of Scoop Malinowski, Dennis Guillermo, Matt Stolow, Brad Cooney Scott Heritage, Rick Rockwell, Ronnie Nathanielsz, Joaquin Henson etc. etc and the thousands of fights fans who leave comments in the Examiner.com, newspaper and magazine online sites, fight and boxing sites and Pacland to stop calling Floyd Mayweather Jr. a COWARD?
Are you out of your Ape/Gorilla mind?

You can’t stop people from calling Floyd a COWARD, a ducker, a chicken, unless he fights one of the best fighter out there like Pacquiao, Cotto, Williams, Margarito and Mosley!
Not unless if you are a COWARD yourself, then don’t call Floyd Mayweather Jr. a COWARD.

But for us Filipino writers, and lots of American boxing writers, don’t attempt to stop us from calling Floyd Mayweather Jr. a COWARD because we are not like you White Gorilla (he only mean it jocular). Filipinos refused to be bullied by Japanese Imperial Forces in World War II, if you heard Bob Arum in his introduction of Manny Pacquiao in front of New York media and press people. Arum stated that Manny Pacquiao refused to be bullied.

I am not angry Mr. Ape, my point is not mis-directed nor am I misfiring here. The call stands until now, Tim Smith should show Manny Pacquiao and the Filipino people the proof and the facts!
Are you trying to be nice with the Golden Boy and Mayweather Camp, or to Tim Smith and Teddy Atlas? (Since Teddy is angry at you, calling you lowlife in his interview with Greg Leon of Boxingtalk.com.) Is the Gorilla writing only to make hits? Are you writing coming from your heart? Are you writing to make a scene or to start a rumor out of the pinoy idol? To write so people will not stop suspecting Manny Pacquiao so there is more to write? To make people notice how much of a literary genius you are being from New England? That your very New England sense of humor be noticed in Pacland? Do you write at the expense of the Filipino and their hero Manny Pacquiao as one of your medium? Are you credible as a writer? Where do you really stand? Top Rank/Pacquiao Camp or GBP/ Mayweather side?

Why in your previous articles did you also write that both Pacquiao and Mayweather could also be cheating? You dont beleive that Manny is clean do you? Are you comparing Manny and Floyd? Manny is not deseving to be compared with a COWARD. Manny is a son of a vegetable farmer and Floyd is a son of a drug trafficker, so no comparisons please.

Can you make a stand if you really believe and are convinced that Manny Pacquiao is clean like Scoop Malinowski, Brad Cooney, Dennis Guillermo and Rick Rockwell? Can you make a dignified stand? Once and for all?

Is Manny a “damage good” really? Are you playing with Filipino emotions just to get some hits? Is the Gorilla having a double face? Where do you stand Mr. Ape? It’s time for all the Filipino readers to know. If your Examiner articles will not be on Pacland, do you think you will get your desired hits? Let them know where you stand! The Filipino readers deserve to know what’s really inside your hypothalamus? Are you one of us? Or are you with the Mayweathers on this?

Do you have friends in Mayweatherville? You said that you have a source inside Mayweatherville, in fact your latest article said so “Mayweather Balks at Mosley.” That’s why you want us to stop calling Floyd a COWARD, because it hurts your source inside Mayweather camp?

A Filipino writer in this present atmosphere of the Pacquiao allegations and accusations are writing from our heart. Are the Filipinos angry? Yes, we are! Is Manny Pacquiao angry? Yes he is! He said, “Enough is Enough!.” He also filed a lawsuit.

You asked, “Can we all get along” in your article. Maybe it will happen in your Ape World or in the Planet of the Apes, but not here on Earth. As long as Manny Pacquiao is disrespected with his due achievements, forget about your Gorilla dream of getting along. When I asked randomly to fight fans last Saturday at the Lopez-Luevano fight if they do believe that Manny is using PED? Out of ten people mostly Puerto Ricans, seven believed that Manny is not clean, only three said that Manny is clean. Which makes me believe that this is due to what they hear and read in the newspaper or TV in New York City. That puts Manny Pacquiao in a bad and unfair position – and you want us all to get along?

Maybe there’s really damage as you suggested because I happened to asked people who are potential readers of Tim Smith of The Daily News in New York. Would it be the same results in Los Angeles or Chicago area if we asked 10 persons randomly?

Is the Golden Boy Promotion, Mayweather camp, Paul Malignaggi, Tim Smith, Teddy Atlas and maybe you White Gorilla winning the battle to condition the mind of the American public that our real world hero Manny Pacquiao is a cheat?

I could not agree or disagree with the White Gorilla by writing that Manny is a damaged good but in the next article he would call for all of us to get along. To get along after the damage is done to Manny Pacquiao?

By writing too many articles this past week, inconsistent in one way or another, the White Gorilla is out of tune, he has exhausted himself. He needs to eat plenty of banana to get some potassium because his rational muscles in his brain are too weak and tired now. He needs to go to the nearest Filipino store in Queens, New York, corner of 69th St. and Roosevelt to buy some Balut to get some proteins for the neurons in his Ape brain, as he is losing substance in his articles by writing too many in one day.
