Funny Boxing Memory: “One of my early fights they gave me a Boy George and The Culture Club for my ring walk. The promoter may have been playing a joke on me.”
Embarrassing Boxing Memory: “When I was an amateur I had to spar a girl my weight and I really felt weird hitting her, she was a butch lesbian and wanted me to hit her too. I obliged but it was hard not to miss her because she was so slow.”
Toughest Opponent Faced: “I still find my first ever sparring partner as an amateur used to give me the worst beating because I was still learning and I was a kid and he was a fully grown man. I used to really take a pounding. I don’t know why I kept going back.”
Training Routine: “Power-lifting and explosive weights one day, long hard boxing session the next consisting of sparring, heavy bag work and shadow boxing. I take a day off when I feel I need it, once or twice a fortnight usually.”
Favorite Boxers To Watch: “James Toney, Evander Holyfield, Jimmy Thunder.”
Favorite Fight: “Kenny Bowman win points against Merqui Sosa. Loved watching Bowman cause the upset. Toney vs Holyfield. Toney vs. Iran Barkley – both were boxing clinics of how to break a man down piece by piece.”
Which Fight Did You Feel You Were At Your Finest, Sharpest Best: “Ed Mahone, because I knew I had to be. It was my first big fight, I had to adapt and evolve to survive or my career was over. For the first time I spent hours watching him fight and knew every move he would make.”
First Famous Boxer You Ever Encountered: “I cant remember who was first but I have had the chance to meet many. All of them have been friendly – Monte Barrett, Guillermo Jones, Cory Spinks, Vic Darchinyan, Anthony Mundine ,Danny Green, to name a few.”
Last Holiday: “I travel with boxing, so I enjoy being at home when I can. My hometown Perth is a holiday spot for me. If you saw the summer here you would understand.”
Favorite Sport Outside Boxing: “Worlds Strongest Man – I like watching Mariusz Pudzianowski the big Pole destroy the competition.”
