Status: Colombia’s 23-year-old power punching junior middleweight, 34-1 (31), defeated Jose Varela last week in Miami by TKO 6 to win the NABO title. Julio is now ranked #4 by the WBC and IBF, #2 by WBO and #6 by WBA.
Age started boxing: 9.
First boxing memory: My first pro fight when I was 16-years of age (KO 4 Jorge Perez in Monitos, Colombia).
Boxing inspiration: Be recognized world wide as a great fighter.
Favorite all-time fighter: Mike Tyson.
Best fight seen: Morales-Barrera I.
Pre-fight meal: Grilled chicken and salad.
What do you do to relax: PlayStation.
Pre-fight Superstition: I bless myself.
What training do you do between fights: Run and train always, keep in shape.
Typical breakfast: Protein shake & fruits.
Toughest part of being a boxer: Making the weight and taking care of yourself.
Favorite music: Hip-hop.
Last book read: Relatos de un Naufrago by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Favorite film: The Hills Have Eyes, scary movies.
Current Car: 2004 Dodge Neon.
Where do you train: Miami Fight Gym in Doral, Florida - home of All-Star Boxing, Inc.
Training routine: Wake up and go to the gym and train at 11 in the morning with the normal boxing routine and weights. And then I run in Miami Springs Golf Course at 6:00 PM.
Toughest man you faced: Cosme Rivera. It was a split decision victory. He is a hungry, experienced fighter who exerts a lot of pressure.
If you weren’t a boxer what would you be: I will be studying.
Last place you went on vacation: Monteria, Colombia to visit my mother and family.
Nickname: Love Child.
Greatest Sports Moment: My moment I’m going thru now and my last three victories against contenders.
Most painful Moment: When I lost (to Carlos Quintana). I had not enough energy to reach the 12th round. I lost the opportunity to fight for the world title. But I will be world champion in 2008.
Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Cookies and Cream.
Funny Boxing memory: None yet.
Embarrassing Boxing Memory: When I lost.
People qualities most admired: Responsibility and honesty.
