Early Boxing Memory: ”Fight my first fight as a junior (age 9). I fought this guy who was about five inches taller than me. He was wearing glasses too. That tells you how he was fighting me. I couldn’t reach him.”
Favorite Vacation Spot: ”Hawaii.”
Favorite Athletes: ”Pete. Marty McSorley – cause he’s a fighter. He was The Man with the LA Kings during the NHL playoffs last year. I loved to watch. It’s kind of funny. They’re on skates – they do a good job fighting on them. It must be hard to balance and fight on them.”
Greatest Sports Moment: ”Winning the belt in France against Daniel Londas, November 21, 1991. Won by TKO in the ninth round. The crowd treated me nice. I remember putting the belt around my waist.”
Most Treasured Possession: ”The cup I took home from France. It’s about 2 1/2 feet tall. The promoter made it up. It says: La Ville D’Epranay a Daniel Londas Championnat du Monde WBA. My name is not on it.”
Pre-Fight Meal: ”Almost anything [laughs]. Pancakes, ham and eggs. It doesn’t affect me, I just go with what I’m comfortable with.”
Closest Boxing Friends: ”Carlos Hernandez, Shane Mosley.”
Favorite Boxers To Watch: ”George Foreman – for a guy his age, he still tries to hang in there. Azumah Nelson – the only fighter today I really follow a lot. A future opponent, hopefully. Ray Leonard. Alexis Arguello. Armando Muniz – he had a big heart. Carlos Zarate.”
Favorite Fights: ”Arguello KO 12 Olivares. Pintor W 15 Zarate.”
Interesting Fact: ”I’m not a problem-maker, troublemaker. I’ve only been in one fight in the street. Also, I’m a sensitive guy too. You can say something that will disturb me but I won’t show it. I’ll just play along.”
